Will my vision ever get back to normal?
 

I have had ON a few times, and just recently was dx with a mild flare including ON. I have noticed each time, or each flare, leaves me with less and less visual acuity. kinda scary! :(

Has anyone else had multiple episodes of ON and gone on to return to normal or near normal vision?

I count on my vision for so many things, I am more than a bit afraid of losing what little I have left. My computer screens are all set on super large type, my TV is huge so I can see it. I have given up driving, and have lost out on many things that I used to enjoy.

Does it get better? or just keep getting worse? I hate this stupid disease! :mad:

I'm in an episode of ON right now and it's affecting my left eye. It's better......I can actually see a little bit out of that eye whereas in the beginning it was just cloudy.

But, I think my right eye has become "tired" for all the overcompensating it's been doing. I've noticed it's blurrier than usual.

Losing my eyesight scares the daylights out of me. I can function with a numb hand/arm (which I have) and I can slowly limp through the day but my eyesight is NOT something I want to lose. My biggest most severe flare was involving my eyesight (double vision).

I'm hoping that any weakness or loss of sharpness in my vision is just age related....but I'm only 49.

Jim's eyesight didn't get better after ON. He developed tunnel vision and that did not go away. HOWEVER, he still passed an eye exam to drive. He put a patch on the left eye. The right eye has never been affected. He doesn't drive much, just when he wants to practice his skills around town. Why should he when I am his "Driving Miss Daisy"? lol

I hope it goes back to normal for you.

I've had two or three ON exacerbations. My vision seems to have gone back to normal or near normal afterwards.

I've only been doing this for three years tho. I dont know if I'm going to eventually lose my sight permanently. I hope I dont. I hope you dont.

The MS really ticks me off.

I don't know if this is any comfort but most people with impaired vision due to MS don't go completely blind. Some may become legally blind but that status leaves many with quite a bit of usable vision.

I had several ON episodes but none recently. I did have a visual evoked potentials test a few years ago that was "severely abnormal." I have problems watching anything fast-moving--a hockey game on TV, a fast action movie, or an incident involving squirrels in the yard.

My best corrected vision has varied between 20/30 and 20/60 for the past 20 years. Uncorrected it's at 20/400 in both eyes but I've always been very myopic.

I wear prescription sunglasses outdoors most of the time.

I use Talking Books for books and magazines but that's just as much on account of difficulty with holding reading material as it is difficulty actually reading print.

I have had nystagmus problems, and my left eye tends to veer off center, causing blurry vision in that eye.

I still get around OK as far as seeing goes. I don't always recognize people, can't read fine print without a lot of magnification, trip over things because I don't see them, drop things because I don't see where I'm putting them, and have trouble differentiating colors. In some bright lights all color vision goes.

I find that very disturbing but try to stay out of bright lights.

There were times in the first years with MS when I would suddenly lose all of the vision in the bottom half of my visual field (and would fall). I haven't had that fun-filled experience in many years.

I am currently legally blind. it is a scary thing to lose another chunk of vision with each flare. Its like not only do I have to really slow down, and chose each word carefully while reading it, I have to read what I just read another 3 times before I understand it. Between cog dysfunction, and visual issues, I feel retarded! :( I miss out on so much.

I used to be snappy quick. I dont want to sound conceited, but I felt like i was 3 steps ahead of everyone else. I just got it. A grades in school were normal for me. Yes, i did a bit of study, but for the most part, I just got it. I could organize, and understand just a bit quicker. Now, I sit and wonder. I feel blunted, and stifled. I cant read well enough to bring the info in, and when I can get the info inward, my cog fog wont allow me to process it at the old speeds.

frustration is my current word. :o

I don't think I've ever had ON because my eyes have never hurt, but I do have Scotoma, which is a condition that leave black spots in your eyes, it is in both eyes and to the right, I can't drive anymore, I fall over things, I just can't see them. When I was diagnosed is when this happened and it is permanent, It has been almost 15 years and I don't think I have ever excepted it, it stops me from doing so much activity. So, I know how you feel about your eyesight.

poochie, have you asked your eye doc about ON? Sometimes it's just noted on your record but you're not told about it.

Scotomas are often an indicator of ON. I've had them and know how scary they are.

I don't want to alarm you, but if you have or have had ON, you may need to know and have it on your record.

I used to be really quick with funny snappy comebacks. I cant really do that as well before...and when I'm around some people, I feel stupid. I can keep up with their conversations, but sometimes I feel like I'm forgetting what I want to say.

I hate when people interrupt me, because it throws off my train of thought. My mom is constantly interrupting me when I'm talking. My dad does it to...geeze, does that ever tick me off. Because then I cant get what I want to say to come out of my mouth because they've distracted me.
