the invisable injury

so true mark

quote -----------------------------------------------
When somebody says "She looks fine," remind them that she is one of the millions of invisible wounded in this country. Their support of her needs will go a long way toward helping society reduce its marginalization of the brain injured.

Studies suggest that upwards of 80% of incarcerated and homeless persons are brain injured. Our society tends to kick them to the curb because they do not look hurt. There are many brain injured who are only a disability check and high utility bill away from homelessness.
UQ-------------------------------------------------------------

even at my head injury group there is this assumption to a certain extent and they should know better
try to tell if someone has a head ache just by looking at them from behind,
if as some I know have scars and dents people can except they have been hurt but some how cant except there brain has not healed
if you have been fixed up by plastic surgeons and look fine then you must be fine and dandy

I will admit I once thought that way , and this is not the only condition with this problem
with the men and woman returning from conflicts with precushoin head injury and ptsd this is set to rise
I wrote this poem up on creative corner kinda sums it up

the regiment

they say he was a hero , but he sleeps on the street tonight

they say he was a hero, who,s lost the will to fight

they say he was a hero, he still keeps the secrets tight

they say he was a hero, but he sleeps on the street tonight

they say he was a hero, the battles in his head, he must fight

they say he was a hero, who drinks to keep them quite

they say he was a hero, with shining medals bright

they say he was a hero, but he sleeps on the street tonight

they say he was a hero, who made it home that night

they say he was a hero, but there is no home in sight

they say he was a hero, we do not treat them right

see his not the only solder

who sleeps on the streets tonight
