anti mag neuropathy
I was diagnosed with anti mag neuropathy about 1 year ago after having symptoms for about 3 years. My first treatment consisted of apheresis 3 times a week, once a month, for 3 months. It didn't seem successful and I ended up with line sepsis. I had a chest catheter. I am now taking azathioprine and just started physical therapy. I tried taking gabapentin for the uncomfortable sensations in my legs and feet, but stopped after a short time because I felt too sedated. Has anyone had similar treatments?

Hi there
I have taken azathioprine (imuran) as part of my treatment for lupus, but it made me vomit horribly and it affected my liver badly so I had to go off it. I haven't had plasmapheresis, but my understanding is that it only washes out the antibodies but doesn't stop them coming back, so it seemed a little pointless to me. I am currently having rituxan treatments which has been helpful for parts of my lupus (which is why I keep having the treatments) but unfortunately has done nothing for my neuropathy. I have sensory motor axonal neuropathy. Rituxan kills off all my B cells for a while, but eventually it comes back and I have some more rituxan. I have been having it for a few years now and so far it's been the best treatment I have had. good luck with your treatment raglet |
Hi raglet
I'm lucky I haven't been nauseous with the azathioprine. I didn't know it can affect the liver. Just was told it might affect my white blood cell count. My neurologist hasn't mentioned trying rituxin. |
