Spinal Cord Stimulator

Im 28 and have RSD. It was Diagnosed in March 08. I have tried many things(phiscal therapy with many different things there, spinal injections, epidural drips)so when my trial stim worked great I choose to get it implanted in 09. The battery was placed in my mid back but it hurt to sit back because it stuck out some what. They moved the battery to my lower back right above my pant line, but now it is protruding all along the bottom line of the battery. It looks so gross like i have a broken bone sticking up under the skin. Now my back hurts very badly like my spine is just crumbling. I have an appointment in feb. with the pain doc. I want to see about getting it moved or having it taken out. It helps so much with the pain in my leg and foot. I just wondering if anybody else has a better idea for a more comfortable spot for battery placement and if u get any relief with taking it out for back pain.

Hello and welcome to NT!

While I can't answer your question, spinal cord stimulators are a frequent topic of conversation here. The link for our forum for Spinal Disorders and Back Pain is

I'm sure someone smarter than me will be along to help you with your questions.

Again, welcome and make yourself right at home.

Cheers

I am 12 days away from getting a spinal cord stimulator implanted. The doctor is going to implant the battery on my right hip. I have also heard of them placing it in your stomach.

I'll let you know how mine feels but I think your best bet is to post in the Spinal Disorders and Back Pain forum like Hockey mentioned. I got a lot of great feedback there.

Good luck!! :)

Allow me!!!

I have nad RSD for 3 yrs. now..I had my SCS implanted in 9/08... My advice is NOT to remove it if your are benefiting from your unit as mine causes more pain when I use it... a different location I understand is in the abdomen...mine is in my left hip/buttox area...I know it is there but it does not stick out or cause too much of a nusieance there. Let me know how you do... we are family here...best wishes..

Welcome to NT

I'd stick with the stimulator if it gave me relief. You're doing the right thing by asking others about their experiences.

We're here for you.
