Lexipro
Weird question...
Was talking w/ someone the other day who knew of someone who suffers w/ bipolar illness. They said they received some benefit from a medication that started with the letter "L" I suggested that perhaps the medication was lamictal. Someone else said Lexipro. Now I'm curious. Is Lexipro commonly prescriped to treat bipolar illness? Anyone taking this with success? I thought that it might be a problem...causing a tendency toward mania. Thank you. |
There is another "L" drug---typically reserved for people who don't respond to others...
Ludiomil http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Maprotiline There is another "L" drug not used frequently-- more for mania since it is an antipsychotic: Loxitane http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Loxapine Because this one is metabolized to an TCA it sometimes helps people who get manic on typical antidepressants. |
I think lamictal is the first line med used as a mood stabiliser now.(I think)
It has antidepressant like qualities as well. I have been on it for years....but I take geodon also to help prevent mania. I can't take regular antidepressants(SSRI'S) they make me manic. But I could take welbutrin in a smaller dose, I am bipolar 1 running on the hypomania side of the spectrum. Bipolar 2 folks run on the depressive side...mixed state do both often frequently....I have only recently (last year) experienced a mixed mood and that was terrible. bizi |
Many thanks.
Did not think Lexipro was typically used. Interesting to read about the other "L" meds.... |
I know that lexipro is used for small depression and anxiety.
I don't know about bi-polar. Donna:grouphug: |
I am on Lexapro and Lamictal to manage my Bipolar ll.
Another L drug is Lyrica - Pregabalin - often used as mood-stabiliser. Those with Fibromyalgia are often prescribed this drug to cope with pain. |
