Mestinon vs nausea

Hi

I am John new to MG was diagnosed in December 09, last week had my thymectomy. Still real sore but getting better. My question is that my Mestinon makes me stronger but very nauseated, does anyone else have this issues and is there anything that helps? Thanks in advance

John

Hi John, welcome aboard!
It is always advisable not to take Mestinon on an empty stomach, take some food or a glass of water with it.

Hi John,

firstly welcome, its a great place, full of nice helpful people.

I agree with Maurice, don't take mestinon on an empty stomach.
Some times I go through times where I'm nauseaus all the time, then can go weeks being fine. I take probanthine (which is contraindicated for mg, but alot of people use it with no adverse affects) it keeps me feeling ok, I couldn't live without it when I'm feeling sick.
Look forward to seeing you around,
take care
Kate

Welcome John,

I have found if I take less Mestinon more frequently, I have no adverse side effects. So even though it is not as convenient, I split my recommended daily dose into 3 (waking)hour intervals.

Check with your neuro - mine was ok with this as long as I didn't miss doses.

Hi John and Welcome,

Try eating before taking your mestinon, even if it is just some crackers. I wish you a speedy recovery and hope you continue to improve.

I have fewer problems if I let it melt under my tongue -- rather than let it go straight into my gut in pill form. It also seems to start working more rapidly this way. I use the regular -- NOT the time-release form.

taking med with food in stomach helps a bit.
as mentioned, taking smaller doses more often helped me tremendously with the stomach and runs, but check with neuro before you adjust or change regimen.

Hi, welcome:hug: Mestinon makes me sicker than anything. I have to take meds to help control the effects of Mestinon, you may want to speak to your doctor about getting something to help with the horrible side effects of Mestinon.
Eating crackers, or toast beforehand can help, for me it did not.
Mesty is famous for this!
Best of Wishes
Love Lizzie
