Are people with MS allowed to eat raw fish in Sushi?
Do you know if people with MS should be eating raw fish in Sushi? I know they say if you have an immune system probleem, dont eat it, but I dont know if its a different type of immune system problem they are referring to...

If I werent allergic to seafood, I probably wouldnt have a problem eating sushi.

My MD said as long as I dont eat Sushi Tuna more than once a month, he was ok with that. It is extremely high in mercury. There was one more that he mentioned, but since I am allergic to shrimp, I wasnt really paying attention. He also wants me to limit the Albacore tuna that I eat. He said Chunk Lite Tuna was better and lower in Mercury than Albacore.
DH loves Sushi! he can gobble it up like I can eat bon bons. :o |
I've never heard anything about it. But, then again, I don't eat sushi at all.
Obviously, you can get real sick from eating raw fish, MS or not. I wonder if that has something to do with it? |
MS or no MS, still, yucky poo....unless starving and there is no wok handy. :D

I used to like sushi. If it's prepared correctly, you wont get sick.
I just no longer eat fish of any kind since I'm allergic to shellfish, and have been told to avoid fish of all kinds since shellfish is sometimes processed in the same places as other fish...so to avoid cross contamination, I avoid all fish now. Otherwise I'd be down the street at the Japanese restaurant getting myself some sushi! |
I love it and figure as long as it is fresh its fine.

Mmmmmmm sushi,, I have atleat twice a week :p

The warning about having "an immune system problem" and NOT eating raw fish" is probably because there is a reasonable chance that the "raw fish" contains some parasites and bacteria which a healthy immune system could handle and would cause no health problems.
However a person with an impaired immune system could get quite sick if these things started wildly multiplying unchecked. jackD |
an underdone hamburger, or a hamburger that was cooked but improperly handled could contain bacteria too.
The contaminated spinach a few years ago proves how easy it is for food to get contaminated (spinach farm was downstream from a cattle farm...what goes in a cow must come out, and travel downstream into the spinach) There's a chance that all food could harbor bacteria. If someone's worried about sushi causing them problems with their MS from either bacteria or mercury poisoning, dont eat sushi...or at the very least, ask your doctor about it if you're that worried. |
