Hi Janet, I am so very sorry about your accident and injury to your bad leg.
Are you on some of the newer meds that work on nerve pain like cymbalta, an antidepressant, lorazepam, an anti-anxiety med, and a sleep pill, as restorative sleep lessens pain.
This sounds like a nightmare. Will your car insurance help you, or the other car's insurance. Do you need an attorney if it was the other persons fault?
Would light massage help? or qualified rsd therapist, psysical. car insurance should help you in seeing a psychiatrist. My psychiatrist is wonderful, he also is a neuro and pharmacologist.
Did you have an mri or further testing after the accident? Were you hospitalized? I couldn't put up with a Dr. not caring for my pain needs. You deserve to have balanced treatment. I personally benefit from psychiatry help.

Sorry to hear about the accident. One thing that makes me more angry than anything in this world is a doctor who will not control the pain of a chronic patient, especially one who's injured limb is infected with an incurable condition like RSD! Why do you need this doctor to release you? If it were me I'd release myself if push comes to shove. I'd explain to this doctor that he is failing to control your pain which is a direct result of a chronic condition and a injured limb in an accident and that you demand the pain to be controlled now because it is your duty. If you can't speak up then get a loved one to tell him. If you get no results then tell him you are filing a complain against him and then move on.

I agree with Jim, you or a loved one has to take a stand against the doctor who is not providing you with an adequate level of care. Only you can take the next step in trying to take care of yourself and obtaining relief from your pain. Don't let someone else rule your life like that!! And to ensure that what happened to you doesn't happen to someone else, report that doc to your State's Board of Health.

I agree that it is unconsionable for a doctor to be able to hold you hostage, although I understand the theory of any release law: to make sure that two or more pain doctors are not prescribing meds for you at the same time without the knowledge of each other. That said, the purpose of the law cannot be to allow a doctor to hold his/her patients hostage.

And what's insane is that you have an untreated broken leg, which may heal improperly (or worse, cause the release of marrow into your bloodstream) simply because this bozo doesn't know how to administer continuous regional anesthesia that could do just that. From what I understand, there is a very good pain group at Vanderbilt, based at the Vanderbilt Medical Center in Nashville http://www.vanderbilthealth.com/pain-center/ with a satellite faciliity in Franklin TN 615-764-0080, if either location would be convenient for you.

If I were in your shoes, I would try contacting the Vanderbilt Interventional Pain Center in Nashville at 615-322-4311, and if nesessary ask to be connected to a social worker to see what can be done about your situation. Just looking at their website, they appear to be doing some cool stuff:

I'm actually an "oldie," just haven't been in for a while (and am one of those who had to re-create a profile after the server crash a while back). I'm SO sorry to hear of your recent accident. I know that just having a cortisone injection this summer in my knee caused a major flair-up, so I can't even imagine how someone who calls themself a chronic pain doc would be in such denial.

I'm with many here in advice- DUMP the bum!!! Perhaps if you have another pain doc that you have picked out, you can get the current fool ...er doc to "transfer" your case rather than release you. That way no one can think you are actually trying to get "double care/double meds" since the two docs would be in contact (the old one would at least see that you are simply "getting a second opinion," which I believe in most states is your medical right -at least it is in California). Good luck and try to keep your spirits up. I'll add you to my prayers too.
