surgery question

I am scheduled to have a biopsy of a mass they found in my nose on March 3rd. they dont want to remove it the same time. .They want the test done first. They are putting me under for that.. Going in through the mouth. Checking for lynphoma. then when tests come back scheduling the removal for the mass after that.. Wondering if i should have it done all at once cause of our conditions. Is it safer for us to do it at once? The doc seems to think there is nothing to worry about, but with crps there is always worries. So i am worried about going under 2 different times, when i should only go under 1time. Can i get some opinions please

Dear Barbara -

They're not great in the chronic pain department, at least in terms of providing advanced treatments for CRPS to out of town patients, but the people I'm thinking of know a bit about surgery, advanced anesthetic techniques and even a little oncology if need be. And yes, they generally only go in once, where they have some of the finest pathology labs in the world already on site.

I would give serious thought to driving up to Rochester, if you get my drift.

Surgery(s) & CRPS

Barbara, I am sending you strength & hope. You can do this. You will do what needs to be done & it will be over. Keep positive.

I friend of mine had the same procedure done last year,,In his case,,they did it all at the same surgery,,,they found a mass/polyp of a great size that concerned them,,It affected his sinus and he was sick all the time,,he is a young lad of 22yrs old,,then after the surgery, then they sent the mass to be determined if it was beign or malignant,,, His came back clean,,,,,,,,,,,,,I agree with the above replies,,,,something doesnt sound right,,Id want it taken out the same day of surgery,,,you might as mike said wanna see someone else,,,,exspecially in our conditions,,we dont have the liberty just to have multiple surgeries,,,,,continuous blocks are ok,,a nice firewall you might add,,,,but nothing is bullet proof when we have RSD,,,,,,,,,,,,,I do wish you the best,,,in cases like this,,you gotta address this[surgery] in case its serious,,or later on turns into something serious, and be problematic until you do,,,,best wishes,,,,,,,,,,,,,bobber

thanks for the fast replies all.. I wanted to make sure that i was right in assuming that surgery for us wasnt the best thing.. So i will tell him to take the mass. and I will also provide proof that it is in my best of health for him to do so.. I will take care of that right away..im not so worried about the mass and the surgery i am worried about the crps affecting it more. I know that sounds silly. But i have had surgeries before and you always heal eventually. I have had them on my nose and such before which is why this mass is evidently got them worried. But the crps is new and affects us all so differently and so hard and fast its crazy that worries me.. I am only 35 and i want to live my life fully for as long as i can.

Barbara -

For what it's worth, I would imagine that the anesthesiolgists at the Mayo Clinic could handle regional continous anesthesia, or whatever technique is most appropriate for head surguries in the presence of CRPS, as well as anywhere outside of Walter Reed. (No joke.) And for what its worth, I've been advised that the big issue with CRPS is when surgery is performed on the arms and legs.

Still, were I in your shoes, I would be just as careful.

Mike
