Powerless in New England

I woke this morn to the sound of half a door bell...DING...not ding dong. So, I knew something was up. I got up to find we were covered in snow. We have a good 10 inches already, and its supposed to keep snowing for the rest of the day. Upon rising, I found we have no power. I knew this may happen, so I spent yesterday prepping all sorts of yummy food that is easy to reheat in the microwave.

We called the power company and its been reported that dozens and dozens of towns are without power. The snow is so heavy that its caused the trees to bow over, and some are even now bowed to the ground. The power lines cant handle that kind of weight, and it snapped off the grid.

I am in good shape, in that I have a generator, and we are high and dry. We have plenty of food, drink, and warmth. We are going into town to help them set up the emergency shelter for town hall, for those that have no heat, or food in this mess.

As long as the cable company doesnt go dark, I can get internet. If the cable company goes dark, so does my phone, internet, and TV. We have a ton of DVDs, and things to keep us busy.

Say a prayer for those that are now in the cold and dark, and wondering how many days it will be till we see power again.

stay safe Dej. We have power here but my parents(7 miles away) dont. They will be here soon as it is getting cold in their house. My kids
are excited to be snowed in with the grandparents.

Everyone out there my prayers are with you!

Glad you got your snow (finally!!) but sorry you lost power. Lousy time of year for that.

The power is out for tens of thousands in Vermont already (so they say). Our lights have flickered a couple of times, so we're going to eat lunch soon so Bob can get "his" dishes done before we lose our water!

We're supposed to get 10-20", but according to the weather map, we're on the lower range. We'll see. Then changing to rain, then back to snow, then rain and snow.....aaargh.

We've had the scanner on, and LOTS of reports of accidents and downed trees/wires. :( Hunkering down. Ow.

Ya'll have really had more than your fair share of winter weather this season. I hope it's a fast moving storm and gets on outta there quickly. Stay safe!

That wet heavy stuff is the worse and most damaging. Plus, it's a pain in the neck to shovel.:thud:
