Mindfulness
Today I was peeling potatoes.
I am one of these people who wants things done....I generally enjoy results not the process.... While peeling potatoes, I could not get a good grasp on them....peeling them took forever, even with an adaptive large handle peeler. I dropped them frequently, missed spots, and had a hideous time cutting them into smaller pieces without adding portions of meat from my finger.... Anyway, I noticed I was just trying to get the job done and I needed to slow down and think about peeling....just peeling, not being done with the boring job of peeling, but rather focusing on peeling. I guess mindfulness has its good points. I am going to try to be slower and more mindful of the mundane tasks I used to take for granted. Things will just take longer now....but at least they can still be done. For now. |
Good point Cyclelops. I have a tendency to hurry the job as well...

This reminds me of how, when I go on a road trip, there is always someone who asks me "did you make good time?" as if getting there and back were not part of the journey.
Good for you for appreciating the process. And happy trails! |
I think I will devise a 'stake' upon which to impale the object I am peeling....help me hold onto it?? I get tired of chasing my potato or apple or whatever across the room, several times no less.:o

Yes, good idea... It drives me nutty when I drop things - especially when standing, because it feels like a long way down (to pick it up)... Some days are worse than others.

I think you need a potato lathe. But I do recall that when I suggested that you needed an electric chainsaw, you seemed alarmed. As I asked before, what could possibly go wrong? And I betcha the grandchildren will just love them and beg to do chores for you!

I tend to rush or not pace myself because I fear the pain getting to a bad point where I won't be able to finish. Unfortunatly this sets me up for pain because I do too much without a break. I remember when I was looking for a place to live and I found if after awhile I even took a 30 min break I could regroup but if i did not the pain got so high and mentally oy. I agree about dropping things or for some reason I seem to bump or trip. I think I notice it more now because it causes pain or being uncomfortable where as before this it did not so it was not noticable.

Yes, Daniella, pain does make me rush. It has ruled my life for a good 6 years now....I have just accepted now, that some stuff, I don't get done. Privilege of age, lol. Only HALF the usual potatoes made it into the crock pot....hubby thought my daughters ate too much of his stew, lol. I didn't have the nerve to tell him I didn't make as much....:p He still got more than he needed.
Potato lathe....hmmm. Does it work like a chainsaw....remember I have a nail gun and am making soap with lye....lol. I can probably do the potato lathe thing...it that like an apple peeler? |
Hi I can relate so much to life around pain for so many years. Having to find ways to do things in such a different way or not at all. I will say you have a lot of spunk in you. Can you imagine if you were not in pain?

I would be darn dangerous. I am anyway.
I went shopping today for my granddaughter's first birthday.....gosh, I wish things were not so darn cute!!! Talk about dangerous...now grammie has to 'splain' to grandpa, why she exceeded her daily debit limit. I could not resist that 'sunflower dress ensemble' nor the rain jacket with matching boots...(so what if she JUST learned to walk.) |
