I'm Worried About My Sister

My sister lives in Alexandria, VA. They've had a rough winter so far and from what I hear more snow is falling.

I wish I had tried calling her on Friday but I didn't want to bother her at work. Now.....I cannot reach her and her cell phone has a recording that says "call cannot be completed at this time". Do cell phones become unusable if the weather is bad? I didn't think they did.

I've emailed her yesterday and today but have gotten no response. I have no other way to reach her. I know her address but that doesn't really do me any good here in GA.

Since my immediate family has gotten so small I tend to be over-protective of the ones I still have here. :o I just hope she's alright. We need a "worried" smilie.......

You know the old saying..."no news is good news"? If something bad happened, you would have heard.

I understand, and sending prayers that all is okie dokie with Your DSis.

Kitty - keep trying her cell phone. Bad weather can limit the range of cell phones. I hope you can reach her soon so you can make sure she is okay. (((hugs)))

Hi Kitty,
I'm in between DC and Baltimore which isn't too far from your sister. We didn't get much of anything this last time and today it was 45 degrees. Hope you have heard from her by now and its the same in her area. If not try not to be too worried.

Hey Kitty.... I live 30 miles south of Alexandria. We had snow for all of 5 minutes yesterday. And temps were warm enough today that my mom took DD to the park. No snow expected until Tues or Wed. Most of the snow from the last blizzard has finally started to melt. I can see patches of my yard.

Checked with DH2B's Army guys who are in Arlington, No snow there either. Hope all is well and you hear form her soon.

Many mountainous ranges have trouble holding a cell phone signal. Add to that thousands of folks trying to jam the lines to use them, and you will find busy circuits. I stick by the "no news, is good news" adage. If she were sick or hurt, you would be contacted. I bet she is just busy with a power outage, or helping others find ways to cope in the mess.

Hang in there.

Thanks, ya'll. I've been trying her cell and the recording no longer plays but I just get a fast busy signal.

Guess I'll wait till Monday when I can try her at work. It's just unusual for her to go this long without emailing me. That's our usual way of communication. If the weather were bad I'd assume she had no power.

Thanks for the reassurances. I knew ya'll would make me feel better. :)

Please know that she too is worried that you are worried, and I am sure the moment she can get a signal, she will find you. Leave a message, an email, or a voice mail. I keep a little dial up connection for travel to some back lands that I cant get a regular email signal from.

You are a good sister to worry. I would trade my sis for you anyday. You are lucky to have such a wonderful friend in your sister that you would worry about her.

Thank you, Dej. We are 16 years apart (she is older) but we've always been close. She was (is) like a second Mom to me. Since we've lost our entire immediate family (Mom, Dad, my DH and our other sister Susan) in the past 8 years we've become even closer. We both have children of our own but they are grown and we are back to pretty much living on our own again (she is divorced).

I just tried her number again and it's just a very fast busy signal. Can't wait for tomorrow morning when I can try calling her at work.

Update: I got an email!!!

Apparently she's not had cell phone service since Friday.....no sure why.....but she got my email and finally responded. She was at her daughter's house last night until pretty late. Phew.......I can relax now!

:o:o Now I feel foolish.....:o:o
