pcs and fainting? delay in symptoms
 

hello board. i want some insight on my recently diagnosed pcs. i hit my head on the cement and was dizzy for a couple days but it went away.

i thought everything was fine until i started getting dizzy and fainting at work 6 weeks later. why was there a large gap between hitting my head and the real brutal symptoms?
is it common to have a gap. also, is feeling like your about to pass out when your on your feet a common symptom or iam i the exception.

i dont have many problems when im sitting down but when i am on my feet its hell after about 2 hours. i cant work anymore. i cant figure **** out like i used to.i lose my vision and balance. how long can i expect this to last.its been 3 months since i hit my head and i dont see it getting better.

Have you been examined by a doctor?

This intense of symptoms means you should see a doctor. You may also have a vestibular problem brought on by the concussion.

I would suggest being seen at an urgent care clinic. The ER will likely be more dismissive of your symptoms. Write down all of your symptoms and the situation before they appear. Take this with you to the doctor.

It is not uncommon for symptoms to be delayed. The damage from a concussion usually get worse after a few days but for some it may be even longer. It is a matter of when the brain has stopped trying to revive damaged brain cells. Then, it lets them die and causes some stressed brain cells to die too.

My concussions seem to have this kind of a delay before maximum symptoms show up.

So, go to the doctor, either urgent care or your regular doctor if you can be seen right away.

If you don't have health insurance, and urgent care clinic might refer you to the ER.

i went to the doctor already. i had a mri,eeg and inner ear test. all negative. the Neurologist i saw sad i had a concussion but didnt give any treatment really. he is one of those time will heal it doctors. i am also in high altitude which could be making a difference.he didnt mention a vestibular problems.what is it.

Do a google for vestibular. there is plenty of info.

I'm sorry you are going through this. The best advice I can give you is to find yourself an advocate. Get someone involved in your care who can really listen to you and your docs and help you figure it out (i.e. your mom, aunt, best friend, etc). Unfortunately you are not the best judge of your own symptoms. Have this person help you keep a log of your daily symptoms and then take the log with you to see your neuro again.

Our neuro prescribed Elavil, which seems to have helped quite a bit with my daughter's headaches. I read somewhere on this forum that it is also supposed to help your brain re-wire faster than without it. Some people can't tolerate it. Ask your neuro.

My daughter's worst symptoms didn't show up for quite awhile either. About 4 months into her concussion we spent a week over 10,000 feet and she definately had more symptoms. Search this forum for info on HBOT therapy.

Having more symptoms when you are physically active is also common. Do a search on this forum for blood pressure. This is taking a LONG time to resolve for my daughter. She is used to being very physically active. Had to start out at 2 minutes at a time on the eliptical machine and work herself up to her current 16 1/2. This is one symptom you do not want to push. Please take my advice on this one and be kind to yourself. You can really delay your healing if you push yourself physically.

Every symptom you mentioned has some discussion on this board. Take it all back to your neuro, with your advocate, and get some answers. You don't want to hear it, but time is the best healer. We are 7 months in and things are getting better. Six months seemed to be a big turning point. I'm sorry :(

why didnt my neuro mention this medicine. i asked him if there were any meds to take for my symptoms and he said no. he has been a neuro doctor for 30 years. im hoping if he felt these meds were needed he would of prescriped them. he just told me to
take b100 and a multi dailywhy do you think the symntoms were delayed so long after the concussion for your daughter and myself.

However, this drug has some anticholinergic properties and my make fainting worse, especially when you get up quickly from lying down or sitting down .

You can print out this article and take it to your doctor and ask why he isn't giving this to you.

Mrs D makes a good point...Elavil (amitriptaline) does increase the lightheaded feelings so it's possible it wouldn't be appropriate for you to take it because of the fainting. She makes a great suggestion for you to take the info. with you to the neuro. It's not for everyone, and it is no fun to come off of even at low doses. It's not going to "fix" you in a hurry, but I do believe it has given her some relief.

My daughter had regular concussion symptoms for about 1 month. Then she felt better for awhile, then she started pushing herself to get back to exercising. After that she became more sensitive to triggers and had some really cruddy months. Her cognitive issues, especially, seemed to get worse at that point.
