Need advice: What AD to take with trazodone?
Hi
I had some problems in the last few months. I had some problems due to steroids use, which completely messed me up. I am now on medication again. I take trazodone 100mg to sleep. I also take socian and olcadil (cloxazolam), but I am not feeling too well. I went to a new psychiatrist and he told me to come back after a week. I will see him next wednesday. I am feeling mainly anxious and nervous and also a bit depressed. In the past I've used anafranil (clomipramine) and it worked fine, but it's not doing the job now, maybe because it doesn't go along trazodone (i read these two don't go very well together), but I still need the trazodne to sleep. But I need something else. Not sure if I took something like Xanax would help me or if I need another anti depressant. If so, which one to use, so it doesn't have bad interactions with trazodone? Not sure if an SSRI would be fine. I really feel anxious, nervous, tense and depressed, but I am not sure if I need another antidepressant, because my main problem may be anxiety/nervousness. Maybe xanax would help me. Or do I need another antidepressant? Can anyone tell me what they think? Thanx |
I take Lexapro . why would you need another AD???
|
Do you take lexapro with trazodone or lexapro alone? How do you feel? I feel anxious/nervous and a bit depressed. Maybe I should keep the trazodone, since it helps me to sleep and add lexapro. Any feedback appreciated

I have used Trazodone as a sleep aid for many many years, and over the years I have also taken several different SSRI and SRNI antidepressants along with the Trazodone.
I have taken Effexor, Zoloft, Paxil, Lexapro, Elavil, Pamelor, Cymbalta, and one or two others that I am forgetting at the moment. According to my psychaitrist, pharmasist, and my primary care doctor it is safe to take an SSRI or SRNI along with Trazodone. When I used other antidepressants with my Trazodone I never had any interactions. The problems I had was that SSRI and SRNI antidepressants tend to cause other side effects for me (nausea) which is why I tried so many different ones over the years. Have you ever tried Buspar? Buspar is an antidepressant and anti-anxiety medication that tends to work quite well in patients who suffer from both anxiety and depression. Years and Years ago, I was taking Trazodone for sleep, Zoloft for depression, and Buspar for anxiety - all at the same time. I don't know if this is something that doctors do often or if I was just 'special'.... but the combo of the 3 medications did help my depression, anxiety and sleeping problems a lot (the reason I stopped taking the combo was because the Zoloft was giving me nausea). I hope that helps, Liz |
I take my trazodone, Lexapro and Buspar all together. I take the Buspar 3 times during the day but I only take the trazodone and lexapro at night. I take other anti-d's too but again during the day or in the AM.
Keep in mind that what may work for others may not work for you. For example my husband cannot take Lexapro at night it jazzes him up too much and takes it in the morning. So good luck with your experimentation. |
I need some help here. I went to the doctor today and he prescribed me buspar, atarax(to start slowly ang increase gradually) and Alacre (a soft kind-of-herbal antidepressant). I'm now on Socian, trazodone, and Olcadil (cloxazolam). The problem is that he told me to stop taking the olcadil and Socian. I guess there is no problem with socian, but should I stop olcadil this way? I think I should reduce it gradually, I might have some side effects if I stop it. Also, isn't buspar and atarax too much for anxiety? I'm really lost here and I only get to see the doctor again in another 30 days. I really don't feel that I should stop Olcadil, which is a benzodiazepine, suddenly . I guess I could stay with trazodone, alacre and either busansil or atarax, but don't know what to do with olcadil. I'm really lost here.

Not familiar with the other meds you are on, but I would reduce gradually. You never know what could happen.

Thnx.
I'm not sure if I can take buspar and/or atarax along with olcadil (cloxazolam) and then start reducing the olcadil at the same time. What about buspar or atarax along with trazodone? I read on the web there might be an interaction... |
I take buspar and trazodone at the same time....it just makes you sleepy so do it at night or if you take it during the day make sure you are okay to drive before going out and doing errands. My husband was on Atarax to stave off allergic reactions for a kidney stone surgery. It is a med that is used for anxiety to allergic reactions. Its another one that makes you drowsy so if you take them all at once, take them at night during a "safe" time when you know you aren't driving anywhere until you know how you react to them.

If Dr. says get off those meds you need to. I take Trazadone and Lexapro together . No problem.
