My diagnosis

I have a macular hole in my left eye. It is something that just happens. It is like a tear in the retna. While the recovery is not so pleasant the surgery it's self shouldn't be that bad in my case because it is a small hole. If I understand it the doctor puts gas in to fill the hole which is why for 2 weeks afterwards I'll need to keep my head bent downward at all times. I will also have to sleep on my stomach which is very hard for me to do. I am going to have to pay someone to take me in for 2 weeks as I am not be left alone. There are risks even in surgery resulting in more surgery. Recovery of good vision is about 70 or 80 percent I think. I have papers to explain it more fully before I decide but I've pretty much decided to have the surgery. the doctor said if I have the surgery that I should have it in the next 2 or 3 weeks. I am so happy that there is something that can be done that worry about the not so pleasant recovery is not so worrisom.

Dear Barbara,

Wow.
The doc's office gave you lots of information.
A guy at my work had eye surgery --
He had to lie down on his stomach for a certain number of days.
When he came back to work he had a eye patch for a little while.

You can plan for this and get things organized -- it already sounds like you are.

i am really impressed with you Barbara. you have so much inner strength. maybe after you heal you can change your life style a bit and do some volunteer work and share your gifts but more importantly put yourself in a situation where you can meet some fine people who will really appreciate you and not cause you pain but enhance your existence. I know it is a selfish reason to do volunteer work but i can't think of a better way of meeting kind and worthwhile people.

dear Barbara

sounds like things will be ok, although perhaps uncomfortable for a little while. hang in there. rather than paying someone to take you in, what about having someone come and stay with you? perhaps a personal aide or nursing assistant i don't know. i think it would be better for you to stay at your own home, if you can. just my opinion.

i am glad you were given so much information. i will be wishing you well for the surgery of course. please let us know when you schedule it.

Thank you Mari, Bobby, and Waves. Bobby, I can not afford to work for free. I do not have enough of a regular income to pay my bills when my insurance money runs out which will be really soon it looks like. I will be working with Voc Rehab to get a job. That is so true Waves that I would feel more comfortable in my own home. I will try for that.

A friend of a friend came by today and took me to the eye doctor so i would not have to take a cab. God is good.

Thank you Bizi. After doing some reading I understand that this macular hole in my eye could be from my ex husband hitting me in that eye.

Hi Barbara!

I know of a couple of people who have had this...

It is IMPERATIVE that you remain face down while you are healing!!!
If you are unable to you stand a greater chance of the surgery not healing right.

You may heal in a couple of days but it can take a couple of weeks.

I wish you the best and a speedy recovery!!!

I dont know anybody who have had the surgery, but Ive read a lot about it, and, I think even when the surgery might be unconfortable and so does the recovery period, it will restore your vision...

so, you are right, go for it !! everything is gonna be fine.

Will be praying for you.

Take care.

And, by the way, your doc seems to be too good :)

Barb
In Indiana we have a program called Area ? for the aging and disabled.
The ? is for the # you live in. But the thing is this agency has programs that
you can use to have like help in the home. They also have programs to
have someone stay with you while you need this.

I would definately see if you have anything like this were you are. I am so glad you have a answer. And please follow the directions.
