Does filing for SSDI effect Tax Returns?

I ask because I filed mine, my mom, and my best friend on the same day. They both received their state last week and their fed today. According to both the state and IRS neither of my returns have been issued yet.

I have also not been approved for SSDI yet, so I am wondering if one may be effecting the other?

I'm not sure......I wouldn't think it would. There is a forum for Social Security Disability related questions. Maybe someone there would know. Here's the link: http://neurotalk.psychcentral.com/forum28.html

It shouldn't effect filing taxes. What may be happening is that it is a custody thing - who claims DD on their taxes. Her dad may have already claimed her and/or hasn't filed as of yet. They get funny about that sort of thing.

It should have no effect, different parts of the Federal Government. And the decision is made by the State Department of Disability Determination. They just get busy and it may take longer.

Just something to consider, when I got my SSDI I also got a large back pay award with it, 24 months. All the taxes on it had to be paid on that for the year it was received in. I had to scratch the IRS a check for over 6k, with the award for back SSDI it moved me up in the tax brackets.
