pain post bridge work

Please help. I had a bridge put in a little over a month ago and am in so much pain. The Dentist has filed down the bridge where the teeth were rubbing the gum and I have also had a root canal done in a tooth under the bridge. My front roof of my mouth goes from dumb to extreme pain. My gums feel as though they are pulling. I am on antibiotics but the swelling is still present. The bridge looks as though it is place but feels as though it is moving. My dentist is 250 miles away and I am losing so much time at work. He can not get the bridge off and keeps telling me that there is nothing wrong.

Hi leslie,

Based on your description, it appears quite obvious that something is going on and your dentist is dismissing it. An infected tooth will cause the symptoms that you have described but so would an ill fitting bridge. I have a sense that both of these may be your problem. Also just so you are aware, the antibiotic cannot cure an infection in a tooth. It may help subside the symptoms but that would be only temporary.

The feelings you are experiencing, numbness, pain, pulling of the gums are generally indicative of an infection which is causing inflammation. Also just so you are aware, an ill fitting bridge will cause the teeth covered by the bridge to inflame and eventually die.

Is there any way you could see a different dentist closer to your home? It sounds to me like you may need someone else to look at this anyway since your dentist is not dealing with your problem.

So sorry to hear you are having this problem........ please don't wait to have it re evaluated. In the meantime, there is nothing you can really do but take OTC pain relievers to subside some of the inflammation and pain.

Please let us know how you are doing.

Bryanna
