Stupid Insurance Company: Lunesta

Hi,

My insurance company sent a letter telling me to ask for a med that will substitute for Lunesta. They have already contacted my pdoc they say.
They will let me have
1. Ambien CR,
2. Zaleplon, or
3. Zolpidem Tartrate.

SOoooooo annoying.

Ambien caused headaches when I tried it for two nights about 5 years ago.
No thank you. http://bestsmileys.com/nono/4.gif

I hated the Lunesta anyway -- I was sleepy 24 hours after taking it.
Thank goodness I took it when I was off from work. HELLO. http://bestsmileys.com/nono/9.gif
Not helpful!!

Has anyone taken Zaleplon (Sonata)??

I'm not really motivated to try any more sleep meds, but maybe I could try another med before giving up completely for now.

i am sorry this is happening to you. i haven't tried it. low and behold i finally got more sleep last night. i guess my sleep problems are psychological. i wonder if they are psychologically based, sleeping medication doesn't help.
have you thought of getting a kitty cat?

Dear Bobby,

I'm happy you got sleep last night.
My sleep is definitely psychologically based.

I would not be able to care for a kitty.

haven't tried it but, some info...

you do know that zolpidem is the generic name for Ambien right?

As for zaleplon (Sonata), i haven't tried it, but i found an interesting Wiki article - drug appears to have a decent profile.

Source: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Zaleplon.

(The inline [n] references below are live links directly to the sources cited by Wiki.)

Quote:

Zaleplon is efficacious in the treatment of insomnia where difficulty in falling asleep is the primary complaint. Zaleplon, unlike many other hypnotic drugs, does not interfere with sleep architecture and can be administered for up to 5 weeks without the risk of dependence or rebound insomnia upon discontinuation.[4]

Zaleplon is also efficacious in the treatment of middle of the night insomnia without causing residual hangover effects.[5][6]

Zaleplon has advantages over benzodiazepines in that it does not disrupt sleep architecture unlike benzodiazepines which whilst inducing sleep actually worsen the quality of it.[7]
take care. insurance companies can be such a pain in the rear.
