Lexapro taper?
 

Has anyone tapered off of Lexapro? I am thinking of stopping because of terrible sweating. I am on 20mgs. Of course I am calling my doctor, but I have heard of terrible side effects as you taper off. Any experiences?

Had the same problems so I quit. BIG mistake and the Dr. raised all manners of he## as he said that it wasnt safe to "just quit" and ther were tapers and other AD if this wasnt working. He never said why it wasnt safe exactly but I didnt want to find out the hard way.

Thanks Gary. I have tried other ADs but they all have caused excessive sweating. I 've been on Lexapro for about 3 months and I thought over time it would ease up but it hasn't enough. I also am getting horrible acne that is 10 times worse than when I was a teenager.

I'm not taking it for depression, but anxiety because my husband is in Iraq and I have two kids under 4. I'm always a little high strung but with so much going on with my kids and my MS flaring up I figured it would calm me down. I thought maybe my MS wouldn't upset me so much anymore. It has worked in that regard but the sweating is too much.

You didn't tell me about the sweating, Jean.:eek: I'm still trying to decide about switching from Paxil to Lexapro or Cymbalta.

I read somewhere, Gary, that you are going to try Cymbalta. Please let me know how you do on it, OK? And Good luck!

I am Sally but I have been on Prozac for about a month without and change and since it has a long half life the Dr. wants me to wait 5 days before I begin it.

I had also been on 20mg of Lexapro. I went down to 15mg and held that for a month then 10mg for a month. At that point I started having problems with both anxiety and depression so back up I went.

It wasn't long before it just wasn't working.

My therapist switched me to Cymbalta. I stopped Lexapro completely for 2 days then started Cymbalta - no problems.

So sorry Sally. It did lessen for me after about a month but it still happens. I think a contributing factor to me wanting to get off is now that my husband is gone, I take showers at night because of my kids. The sweating mostly happens at night. Without that fresh start in the morning I feel gross all day. And sweating and sleeping on my hair is probably causing my acne.

The Lexapro is working other than that. Didn't mean to mislead you at all. I thought sweating was a rare side effect for Lexapro.
