Does PN cause wrinkled fingertips/donating blood
 

Hi:
54 year old male diagnosed with idiopathic PN about 6 months ago. I've noticed that my fingertips are now always wrinkled (as well as slightly numb).
Can PN cause wrinkled fingertips?
Also, I used to give blood regularly. I was waiting until I found the cause of PN before giving again. But a cause may never be found. Is there any reason why someone with PN shouldn't give blood? I'm not on any prescription meds.

I don't really know. But, I do know that when I get an attack of dysautonomia, I get wrinkled finger tips. Perhaps, it is due to excessive sweating?

I have idiopathic PN and my finger tips have been wrinkled, numb and very sensitive to heat for a number of years. Neurologists say it is 'probably' due to my PN.

Whether or not you would give blood would (I think) depend on your general health, and what is causing the PN - although if yours is idopathic, I guess you don't know. I am not able to give blood because of my lupus, but that does not necessarily mean that others with PN can't. I would ring the blood donation services directly and ask them, they will tell you.

Because if you have high inflammatory #'s in your blood work it could be an immune issue, thus you'd be a less desirable candidate. It gets complicated - if yours is simply and clearly [from all tests?] a diabetic type neuropathy you mite get in quickly. Otherwise, they mite not accept you. Don't feel 'rejected'? It comes with the neuropathy territory.
As for 'pruny fingertips'? I too have it? This web site helps some in explaining things [but I've an immune type neuropathy-doesn't mean one who doesn't have an immune PN can't have similar symptoms?]

First read the 'Abstract, then the Index' then go to read about the diabetic PN's....most except for the immune related ones have similar side effects and one of them is the lack at times of sweating or oil productions on your skin and thus VERY DRY and or pruny skin. Find yourself some good quality moisturizers such as lubriderm or Eucerin or the like and slather away!
Don't forget too? When you get stressed? You'll likely get 'pruny'. Goes with the territory somehow, again? Slather away, but try and find lotions that are less greasy and more simply moisturizing and actually soak into your skin fast.
Beats getting so dry you have BIG dandruff and huge itching all over!

I have PN, most likely due to an autoimmue disorder...numb, tingleing hands and feet...lots of burning. My fingertips keep getting very pruny and wrinkled. I also have erythromeleglia (mottled red hands and feet, especially when hot or walk alot)...All of this happened at same time..cant believe it's not related....

Googled wrinkled fingertips and found this thread - and this site! So much useful information here.

Already have mild PN, probably due to B12 and folic deficiency. PN now reached groin and I've had wrinkled fingertips for couple of months. No doubt PN symptoms will reach my hands soon enough.

Gonna have to take my PN seriously more seriously. :(
