Finally - Pain Relief
Hi
I've had RSD since breaking my elbow in 2002. I had just given up and accepted the fact I would always hurt when I came across a solution by accident. I was given Zyprexa for my bipolar disorder and gradually my pain went away. It's been a miracle for me. It's very expensive but worth it. I hope this helps someone. I take 10mg. at bedtime. Pam |
Have you discussed this with your Dr. and been given any explaination as to why this eased your RSD pain? Let us know-Carol

Hi Pam! Just dropping in to say "Hello" and thanks for the tip. I will ask my doctor and do some research.

What is Zyprexa?
Quote:
What is Zyprexa? I see you stated it is for bipolar and I know a lot of those type of meds. work for nerve damage, I have tried quite a bit of them. I had major damage to my ulnar nerve. I would appreciate any input. I am also in pain each and every day since 2003. Thank you, Gabbycakes |
Zyprexa is an antipsychotic. It's used to treat schizophrenia, bipolar depression and stubborn depression that doesn't respond to other meds. I know it effects serotonin and dopamine levels, but I'm not sure how. I'm guessing the way it works for RSD might be similar to Cymbalta or the old school antidepressants like Elavil and Nortriptyline (?spelling). The chemicals effect nerve impulses and we have screwed up nerve impulses.
I know it was one of those drugs that the side effects list scared the heck out of me .........will increase blood sugars in diabetics and possibly give you diabetes if you didn't already have it, increased cholesterol levels, massive weight gains, seizures, etc..........and those were just some of the side effects that don't instantly kill you. Neurontin increases my blood sugars and gives me brain fog but I still take it. My husband thinks Cymbalta made me psychotic (a possible side effect) just because I asked for a divorce.....he didn't think our 10 year sexless loveless marriage had anything to do with it ............So sometimes we need to take meds with side effects or possible ones that we would prefer not to have, but I don't think Zyprexa is the magic pill that will fix all of us like we would like. I believe this Zyprexa success story is like Neurontin/Lyrica helping some people a lot, some of us it helps a little, and others can't/won't deal with the side effects. Coach......I'm so happy for you ! Alleviating RSD symptoms sure is a great side effect for a drug that your body needed anyhow ! Thanks for posting this. I had never heard of Zyprexa having an effect on RSD sx's before. I still have my fingers crossed for the one magic pill or wave of a wand that will fix us all ! |
Zyprexa is the reason I have gained so much weight...that an not being able to move like I used to...I'm glad it's working for you...I wish I had a dime for the meds that I have been on in almost 2 years...I'd be a rich woman!!

Zyprexa
Hi
Zyprexa is indeed an antipsychotic. I take a very low dose. I told my shrink that it was helping my pain and she said there had been studies done and Zyprexa was found to be very effective in helping fibromyalgia pain. It does have the side effects mentioned. I've gained about 7 pounds. I watch what I eat to keep my cholestrol and blood sugar down. I just had a checkup and both were at good levels. Every drug has side effects so we have to decide if the benefit outweighs the risk. I have my life back. I've gone from being totally inactive to being able to walk five miles. It's a wonder drug for me. Please talk it over with your doctors and decide for yourselves. Pam |
