Internet explorer security updates help

Any puter gurus? I'm a total boob and can't even figure out which version of internet explorer I'm using, sigh. Can someone tell me how to find it? I've gone to the control panel and tried right clicking on the icon with no luck.

P.S. I think I'd rather have a virus than have my computer bogged down by the virus scans.

To find your current version for IE - when open click the Help button and the bottom of the list click -About Internet Explorer - then it will open a little box with the version & info.

that will work for most programs the same way -
so if you ever need to know just click there for the version info.

Have you ever tried Firefox??? you might love it! FF for short LOL
http://www.mozilla.com/en-US/firefox/personal.html

it can import all of your favs right into it.
you can choose to use either or both - FF or IE

we have a nice little computer technology forum here too -

If you have any other questions - I just happened to notice your post title.

I still have IE6, I think. They keep nagging me to update to IE8. I don't wanna, I hate changes. I tried IE7 and hated it. Went back to 6.

Is anybody on IE8? Do you like it.

I updated to IE 8 but only use it if a site requires it.
For me IE is so much slower loading pages than Firefox.

Firefox is FREE, and so easy to install and set up.
I think most that try it become fans of it.:)

I've had Firefox so long that I sometimes forget I have IE, which I never use. Love it!

I just want to add that all programs have updates and improvements for a reason, many of the updates are to fix security issues that have been found -so I do suggest getting the updates.
Or the new improved versions.

I like 8 MUCH better than 7. I updated recently, and dont regret it.

Firefox is also a good way to go.

Did you have to transfer anything or does IE take care of that? I don't want to lose anything.

Thanks.

It will transfer all of your stuff into the new version - it will also have a screen come up with some questions & choices.

here's some screenshots of what it looks like so you will know -
