Prednisone and side effects:

Here is an excellent article for those taking high dose prednisone for long periods of time:

http://www.gihealth.com/html/educati...rednisone.html

It covers all the bases and is excellent.

It would be a good idea to print it out and keep with you for future reference. It discusses dietary control for side effects, and things like elevated blood sugar, high blood pressure, and infections.

Do you mind if I copy your post over to the MS forum? It's excellent information and lots of MS patients take high doses of Pred for exacerbations.

Sure, go ahead! I've read many drug monographs on prednisone over the years. This one written by a doctor is by far the most useful and explains what the patient can do to make the therapy more successful and reduce the nasty side effects.

The MSers typically use IV version SoluMedrol, but some may be on long term as well. But not as commonly as is here.
