? about cost of Avonex

I can't believe I am actually asking about how much your Avonex costs! I have been on that med for so long and answered so many of other peoples questions about how much I pay and now I'm on the asking end.

My husband retired in December so I am not on his insurance anymore and got me a Medicare advantage plan. So of course that means Medicare D. I am in the catostrophic period now. Yipeeeeeeeee!!!!!!!!! I thought I would be paying $525/month for A but when Specialty RX called me for my refill this week they said the copay was $131.96! I couldn't believe it. That was almost $400 cheaper than we had figured and budgeted for the year. So now we are wondering if we are going to be rich beyond our means or this is all a joke and next month it will be the $525.

No party1 We figure for the 7 months of medicine left to order for the year times the $400 savings/month equals $2800. I will pay for one whole month at full cost of $2500 next year of the Avonex on my Medicare D. So that's not much money left. I hope I wrote that the way it can be understood. After I wrote it I wasn't sure I even understood it. But my back hurts and I'm not in tip top shape. I keep on putting off calling the doctor.

Once again, I find it truly staggering that you lovely people accross the pond have to PAY SO MUCH for your meds!!!!
I can hardly believe that this is the case ! $500+ dollars a month ???

With the money you 'save' if your cost drops, pack your bags and get yourself abroad. I would say fly yourself somewhere better but I think you're restricted with destinations at the moment thanks to a certain volcano

What happens if you can't afford to pay? do you go without ?

I've got a box of beta going spare. anyone want first dibs ? :winky:

If you have no insurance or can't afford the medication most companies will give it to you at discount or free.

I still need an answer about what people on the medicare advantage plans are paying

wkikta 04-19-2010 10:53 AM

Not sure just what my catastrophic cost will be this year, but I think it will be about $400 a quarter, $137 a month.

Thanks wkikta. I was just amazed. Wasn't what we had planned on but am happy with.

The only hard part us getting through the donut hole.

doydie 04-21-2010 11:28 PM

I was through the donut hole by the end of March. I was anxious about having the Medicare D but so far it has been OK. And my Anthem premiums are only $14/month.
