105 Fever & Trip to ER
Long story short (I'm fine now) Didn't know I was sick, until my temperature SUDDENLY spiked to 105.3 last night and I was chivering convulsively out of control. Spent the night in the ER. They got my fever down, pumped me full of antibiotics. It turned out to be a UTI.
Okay, I had felt no burning....should I have felt burning? I'm afraid my body is becoming so numb that I'm not feeling things I should be. Somehow I'm going to have to learn how to keep better tabs on my body. I'm sure I must have had this for quite some time for it to have gotten so out of hand. Anyway, I guess I gave my dh quite a scare. But I was so out of it all I could feel was my body convulsing. I thought I was in our old farmhouse. i was just out of it. I don't wish to repeat this! Any input or suggestions would be welcomed. ALSO: During the time of my high fever I lost the use of my left leg. This is the side that I was temporarily paralyzed on a couple years ago with an MS attack. But by the time the fever came down and I got back home.....leg is just fine...or at least as fine as it was prior to the fever. That was kinda scary. |

Just last night, my neuro had a lecture and discussed when your bladder is numb, you won't know that you have a UTI...he said what usually happens is we get an exaserbation of leg spasms/numbness. So the next time you have trouble with your legs, it might be trying to tell you something. Hope you're better real soon!! |
Debbie,
Thank you so much for that valuable bit of information. Wow... my legs have been SO weak the last 'few' weeks. I am so glad to know this.
AND....maybe my legs will get some strength back! I'm sure I am on the mend now!:) |
Something else I've learned....
...that everyone else in the world probably already knows... Was that everytime I took antibiotics I would end up with a yeast infection.... So now I have learned to ask for a Diflucan pill to take with the antibiotics to avoid this. No need having anything else to cause discomfort if avoidable!

((((HUGS)))) Sorry to hear about this. :(
Drink plenty of water with the antibiotic. I've found that can help. I have AZO test strips at home - I find them at CVS. A little pricey, but much cheaper than copays from the docs. I test myself every couple of months to be sure nothing is going on since its hard for me to feel stuff sometimes. I also drink real cranberry juice every month or so as well in hopes of staving them off. Knock on wood - I haven't had one for a few years. Feel better soon!!!!!:hug: |
Sorry to hear you've been so sick. I'm glad it was something "fixable" and you're doing better now.

I drink quite a bit of water. But I will definitely make sure to drink a lot this week. Thank you so much for the good advice and the well wishes. |

Thank you! |
Jim went into kidney failure seven years ago with that high of a temp. So glad your OK! He had back pain, that's it. Then came the blood in the urine. Dark urine is a sign as well of a UTI so drink plenty of water. Jim takes Macrobid and cranberry pills daily to avoid UTI's in the future. We still have a scare here and there but it's keeping it at bay.

I had a UTI for 6 weeks, It paid no attention to the most Anti-biotics. I can feel but I get no symptoms really. I take Microbid every day. When I remembering to, Cranberry pills. It's hard to drink enough Cranberry juice for it to be effective says my neuro. Pills are better calorie wise anyway. (and cheaper). Drinking lots of water is always good.
