Hi guys,
Does anyone receive social security disability because of their postherpetic trigeminal neuralgia? If so, were you denied the first time? I am in the middle of this process and am scared to death because I can no longer work. I am a 40 year old female and worked in healthcare.

Hi, I'm in England I haven't heard of anyone as yet getting disability because of TN But would have thought sick pay of some sort depending where you are. Good luck Jackie xxx:grouphug:

Yes, I started getting ss in Aug. of 09. Yes I was denied first, I hired an attorney, went to court and received social security. I was a dental hygienist for 23 years I couldn't wear the mask around my face or lean over people with out having pain. I had the MVD surgery and it did not work. Went back to work after the surgery but could not do it.

Yes, I receive ss in Aug. of 09, yes I was denied the first time. Hired an attorney and had to go to court. I had MVD surgery that didn't work, went back to work 4 monthes after the surgery but couldn't do it any more. I was a dental hygienist for 23 years, couldn't wear the mask around my face or lean over people, it was too painful.

Attorney furnished through S.S.Disability
 

I have received S.S.Disability for about 6 yrs. now. They do say that the first time you will more than likely be turned down. I was. Then I went through the attorney for Disability.( they do have their own) and very considerate. I had the most rediculous physical through a Doc. they furnish. I might as well been dancing around a campfire with headless chickens.
He had no idea what he was doing. More than likely you will get it on your second try. Another good thing is I believe they will go back from the date of your first try and pay you

I would like to know if Susan got SSDI. I am trying to apply but the attorney who said this is not a covered disability. I will have to refer her to this site.

I started getting disability in '05 I stopped work mid '04 and they take the first 6 months from you.
Quit fighting and going crazy, gt an attorney who specializes in disability cases. They can tell you if you will qualify or not because they don't get paid unless they win, then they take about 30% of your back wages, so..they don't take no money cases.
They took mine even though it was so little, I had been a homemaker and a student (military wife) but he saw what I had been through and how much pain I was in and took pitty.

As he said a quadriplegic will be denied their first time around,,,that's a quote. Then you go to a "govt" MD, that I had to EXPLAIN the disorder to because he'd never heard of it,,,great,,,then a counselor said I was depressed,,, well I could have told you that,,,it was like an episode from "Gilligans Island" I'm just waiting for the skipper to walk in with a coconut and a monkey on his shoulder,,,,,a " goat *&%^#" the denied again,,,who saw that coming!!huh huh,,,,, anyway the lawyer sends letters to your MD's asking what HE needs to know about your case and from that he writes a brief, which a judge will give about 5 minutes depending on the state and how well they know the lawyer('s honesty),

My lawyer always said it helped that her husband was a neurosurgeon!!! I had 2 MD's on board saying I could not work and I got fast tracked (I'm in Illinois) and I still waited 2.5yrs it would have taken another 18months without being rocket docket,,,,

Every state is different, some are much more streamlined some less...don't give up. Get a lawyer and let him fight for you.....
Don't give up hope...you will find the right lawyer that will work for you.
