frustration !

Hello to all...This is the first time I've ever been in a chat room. To make a long story short I went through a very intense battle with colorectal cancer which left me unable to work due to the surgery. I went through the disability process and jumped through all the hoops, was turned down, got an attorney, went before the ALJ and was awarded only a fixed period of disability. For 2 years. After waiting for 2 years I'm just happy to get what I did.My problem, however is that it's been 7 months since I was awarded this money. In that time I've gotten letters make no sense.I even got awarded SSI and was then told that it was a mistake. The people at Social Securtiy keep saying "we're working on it. Have patience". In the mean time I'm existing on food stamps and the goodness of friends. Not to be complaining though as I'm glad to be alive but I'm wondering if anyone else has had a similar experience.I'm not sure what to do and my attorney says his involvement stopped at getting me the award.I live in a VERY small town in northern California and it is very isolated.I don't know if it's that or if the Social Security System is just inept. Any feedback would help me. Thanks

call the SS office and make an appointment. You should be able to talk with your case worker and get some answers. Be sure and take the reams of paper work that they have sent you. I would also fire that lawyer! Lisa

Seven months after a favorable ALJ decision is not a reasonable time frame. I will tell you that closed periods are often more complicated to adjudicate and since there is SSI involvement, there is probably a windfall offset. You need to talk to two people in your local office; the SSI windfall offset specialist and the SSDI supervisor. They may be able to figure out where the logjam is and take the appropriate action.

Have you filed a new claim since you are still not working? Did you appeal the closed period? Did you do both? Nothing to stop you from reapplying.

Also some members on other forums here have contacted their representatives & congressmen & shared their story when they had ongoing problems with the system...... and many got action & help.

calls got made and things got moving again..

Not So frustrated

Thank you all for your input. It made me feel not so alone. The hug was GREAT! Yes I have appealed and also filed a new claim. I keep hearing the word "offset" in my bizarre conversations with the SS represenative .I am going to do some more research as he won't explain in a jargon that I can understand.I called the state of Idaho where my daughter lives last week and the nice woman I spoke with said that my claim was in the payment center in Richmond Calif. Hopefully this means that it's in the process . Happy Mothers Day to you all.:grouphug:

Almost a year after receiving a Fully Favorable decision, I finally contacted Barbara Boxer's office, and their office wrote a letter on my behalf, so a supervisor then helped expedite things. If you can get a supervisor at your local office to help you, you can take out of that extra step, because it adds a few weeks extra time.

Good luck.

The local office does the computation. The payment center inputs it and releases the retroactive benefits due after offset.

Welcome to the site, I would do what others have said and call your local office: I think this is the answer you were looking for. Click on the link for more info.
