I have a question about all these pills I take.

I do not take a multi vitamin. My diet is great so I just take what I have learned on these boards.

fish oil, Methyl b-12, a good Magnesium pill, vitamin D, alpha Lipoic, Milk thistle, C and Zinc, (I take optizinc) , chromium picolinate.. etc. etc.

so here's my question.

Isn't there ONE pill that has all these things in it? In the proper dosage that I get from the various pills I now take?

It would be MUCH easier to take one pill than all the one's I take.

Is there any manufacturer who makes THE PERFECT MULTI-VITAMIN for a diabetic that has everything I need?

That would be so cool. I guess I'm dreaming, right?

Most combination products have doses that are not what you would like to have.

Since you are taking that new Sugar Control cap, you don't need the chromium, and I wonder if you really need milk thistle.

I take everything separately. Always have. Most of what you listed is not even expensive. I break my supplements up into 3 times a day, so none are taken all at once.

The more you add to a combo product the larger the pills, and the more numerous. Some combo products you take 6 or 8 a day! So it is many pills any way you look at it!

Yeah, I hear you!!

I don't take the chromium because it is in that Blood Sugar thing that I take. And the reason I take milk thistle is, well, I read that it gives your liver a break when you are diabetic.

I read that when a person has dawn phenomenon and their sugar is a bit higher in the a.m. then it is all during the day (today my sugar was 92, and the other day I managed to get 86 (coooool!!!!)

So when I was in the ACCORD program, I told them "why on earth is my sugar high when I haven't eaten all night, I just slept".???? and the doctor said "oh that's your liver" and I said "there's something wrong with my liver??" and she said "oh no, don't worry, your liver is just fine, it's just that .....and I'll never remember exactly what she said but she said the liver does something during the night, and she wasn't against my taking milk thistle".

Do you have anything against milk thistle? or am I just throwing my money away?

Just curious.

P.S. I don't drink liquor in any way shape or form. Never have. It's not my thing. I know that one glass of wine in the evening is good for the heart but for me to go out and buy a bottle of wine , well, it would have to be served in a glass, and Alan can't drink, so I'd be all along drinking my wine, and WHO WANTS to do that?

So no liquor in my house.

I just like to have a nice healthy body (well, as healthy as I can be for my age anyway!!!!)

lol

People who have liver disease, hepatitis, or viral inflammation do well on milk thistle. But if your liver function is normal, then it is just "extra". Take it or leave it.

The dawn phenomenon is when you dip low during the night fast, and the liver then responds (as it should) to make more glucose from glycogen or amino acids from protein you ate.

It is normal really. The dawn phenom. is more pronounced in people using insulin, or who eat alot of carbs at dinner. I keep a Zone bar handy at night, if I wake up at 4am starving. I have one then. I personally think all people as they age, lose flexibility with insulin...and I think some of the extreme interventions for every little detail, are over kill...but that is my opinion. Older people are not going to have the blood sugars and fasting ability of youngsters. Why expect them too? I am not talking about "extremes" but I think medicine is too strict and daily comfort (and money) are sacrificed to hold to arbitrary numbers. The strict arm of the ACCORD study proved that one! Holding diabetics to a too low A1C killed them!

I agree. and thank goodness I was not in the intensive group. I was in the normal group (or whatever the name of the group), but they said my body reacted as if I were in the intensive group. I was in two studies. The diabetes study and the blood pressure study.

And they contacted me recently. Next year they are going to have a continuation called the ACCORDION Protocol.

Can't wait to hear what that will be all about.

Life is so interesting.

Hope you are doing great.
