listening to radio

well after i gave Mari the link for streaming radio stations via web... i realized i hadn't tried it with the equalizer on. tweaked some settings and it sounds acceptable on my pc now!!!

so the past few days i have been listening to radio. it is amazing. had forgotten the wonders of having songs tossed at you unexpectedly. the feeling of, "oh wow i haven't heard this song in aaaages..."

this is helping me retain a modicum of sanity i think.

i flip back and forth between two stations that i used to listen to in my car - stream both and mute one at any given time.

next on the radio agenda is to figure out when Car Talk gets aired on NPR. i used to love that show.

thank you, Mari, for bringing up the subject of radio again. ;)

Car Talk

Dear Waves,

I love Car Talk!

I don't listen to it because in my market it airs on Saturday mornings when I am sleeping.

I just went to the web site and the site is featuring a show from 2007-08-04 with one of the best callers they ever had (Call #8 that day). A guy called the show to ask Tom and Ray if he should clean his messy car before a first date or if he should be honest about his life and leave the car the way it usually is.
That is my favorite story from the show.

It looks like I need to pay 95 cents to listen to that.

Oh well.
You can listen to this week's show for free.

hee hee Car Talk

i too missed the show most of the time when i was there.. because of sleeping! ;):o

i have not heard that show with the car-cleaning it sounds hilarious. it is 95c for me too - assuming they would even let me buy it... the audio for the current show did not work for me. :( they may restrict access to national. tv networks that offer reruns online do that.

did you try listening to the show from their site? did it work?

if not, i found one NPR station that airs Car Talk Sundays at 1pm Eastern would that help? (it is accessible via web - i tried.)

me being 6-9 hours ahead i have it easy now... 10 am eastern = 4pm here! :p

this is sad. i bet, that if i had said the same thing about some NEW DRUG i was taking, more people would have actually responded to me. but it isn't meds, so it's what - boring? frivolous? even if it

Hi Waves, how do you listen to free radio on Vista without any website? I'd love to listen to radio on my PC as my stand alone radio has so much static on it.

I have been busy this week also so I didn't get around to this post till now. Sometimes if a post has a lot of responses I don't respond as I feel like I'm so far behind unless I've kept up from the beginning. So that's why I don't respond to most posts that are long. I know this one is not long but sometimes you might have a long post and I didn't want you to think I'm ignoring you.

Hugs,
barbara

this is a big thing for you and I am happy that you are able to listen and enjoy.
I know how much you miss alot of things from the past.

Hi Barbara

don't worry. i probably should have named the thead something to indicate better that it was important to me.

i realized others may not care about listening - you all have local stations - that speak english for crying out loud, and play stuff you want to be listening to. i do not have this.

i am sad, because i wanted to share that i found something that is helping me a lot. it is a big positive for me during a really negative time. it probably sounds trivial but it is not trivial to me. i can't seem to post about the deaths and i feel horrible.

i don't know how to listen to radio without any website.

this is the website i use:
http://www.radio-locator.com/
type in the city/state, or zip. you will get a list of stations, click on the name. then from the page that opens, click Listen Now. some will stream to a browser window, others will open windows media player.

yes it is, and i do. it isn't just nostalgia either - there is a whole mindset. a whole culture thing. it is a connection to that. i feel so out of place here. you have no idea what a relief it is to hear a living voice speaking english without a foreign accent.

i even listen to the traffic reports of where i used to live! :o now that's partly nostalgic. but i sometimes listen to some of the commercials too. only some, and only sometimes - those get annoying quick. and they are recorded, not live like the DJ's voice.
