Single parent of a child with Intracable epilepsy
Was hoping that there might be someone out there with a similar situation as ours. Need info on options/help for single parents trying to STAY gainfully employed and be there for her My daughter is 8 years old and has struggled with seizures all of her life . She recently had th VNS implanted and we have seen some progress, however she still breaksthrough episodes that prevent me from working. I do not have any outside help from family or anyone else, any advice is much appreciated. thanks

Hugs to you and your little girl, Becky
You might try re-posting this on the child neurology forum, there are many parents there who have children with seizure disorders. |
Hi Becky! Welcome! :)
I'm very sorry to hear about your daughter. What area are you from? If you'd like, I can do some searching for support groups in your area. Best wishes to you. |
Hi Becky
Welcome to the forum. I am glad you found us for support. I am sorry your daughter is going thru this. How long has she had the VNS? What meds is she still on? |
I would like to invite you to http://www.vnsmessageboard.com
We have over 600 members and a seperate parents forum.:) |
Hi,
I am a single parent and my daughter has intractible E as well. I would love to talk sometime. Have you gotten FMLA? I would have lost my job a long time ago with out that protection. You can follow the link to my daughters site, my email is to the right hand side of that page, I would love to hear from you. |
Hi Becky
I'm Donna and I have a 15 year old that has had his VNS for 2 years. We still deal with seizures, and he still is on 3 different medicines. He has a paraprofessional at school, and we have to have someone with him 24/7 so I can totally relate to what you are talking about. I don't know what state your in but if you would like someone to talk to. Email me at dmom3005@yahoo.com and I'll see if I can figure out someway to help you. I am also a advocate in the state of Indiana, and have resources to help parents in other states if they need it. So if you are having problems with the schools I might be able to help. Have you looked into respite care. Donna |
