frustrated and painful

Hi everyone,

I have recently been diagnosed with sensory peripheral neuropathy. It started a few months ago with tingling and aching in feet, then hands. I feel unwell throughout my whole body, and now my hands and feet burn constantly. Nothing helps. The neurologist, gp, even emergency department staff don't seem at all interested in finding out what is going on. I feel like I'm going insane!

Does anyone live in Australia and know of a neurologist who specialises in neuropathies or SFN? :(

Welcome, I'm from Australia

Hi Semaphor,
Where in Australia do you live, I live in Brisbane. I am seeing a neurologist in July but I do not know if he specialises in neuropathies but my doctor recommended him. I am seeing him as a private patient as the public system is very slow in Queensland, waiting list can be up to two years going public. Have you had any blood tests and what have you been tested for. Before I went on neurotalk I had know idea and I have learnt a lot so hang in there, have you been tested for B12 and D and glucose levels.

I know what you are going through and it can be very frustrating as you feel very alone, I have small fibre Peripheral neuropathy and it seems it is slowly taking over my body, it is hard to explain to your family and friends what is happening to you.

Read the Stickys at the top of the page and the new PN sub forum, they will give you lots of information. I am sure more people will give you more advise soon.

Just remember you are not alone and I hope things improve for you soon.:circlelove:

Hi Semaphor! I just joined as well and received alot of support and help right away. The toughest part is feeling like you are alone and people just think you are crazy because its hard to describe the symptoms and your tests come back normal.

After doing mannnny tests and seeing over 10 different docs, they didnt find anything and it realllly stressed me out. Especially when they tell you they cant do anything to help you! ahh lol...

Rest assured you will find some support here; we all feel your symptoms ;)
Get all your vitamins tested, like lesley said, after a year for me Vit D was very low asn B12 normal but im taking alot of both right now. You will start to feel better in general.

Do some reading but dont over do it in one day, or it will stress you out, its overwhelming but there is great informatino on this site

ttysoon and im in the same boat so your not alone!
