Trekking Poles
 

I bought some trekking poles. I have this foible for high end sporting goods, so these are suitable for an Everest ascent, but WTH, you never know, right?:p

I bought Leki's, which have a spring loaded thing at the bottom....supposed to be good for relieving ligament strain etc. They look pretty cool....now I will feel stupid at the nearby park with these high end poles.....:o I am going to try them out tonight, hubby will walk the labradors, and I will trek....should help with that insecure foot planting. I don't imagine these would work for any serious weight bearing given their lightweight collapsable features, but, for my purposes, I think they are just fine.....and oh, sooo trendy!

You should enjoy them. I use mine all the time. I only have one,
and use it for the stairs outside and for gardening etc.

And yes, Leki are rather high end.

:o:o:o I do this ALL the time. I used to be a diehard cyclist, and now my high end beautiful bike is sitting in front of the fireplace! Mostly it is my hand issues that are keeping me from even a 5 mile jaunt....that and some laziness I guess.....maybe this summer.

I have no idea why I ordered such nice poles.....I got sold on all the 'relieves ligament and joint strain' stuff.....maybe I figured it would cure my neuropathy....ya think??

I think the walking poles help. At least they do for me. They don't hurt your hands like crutches or canes IMO.

People don't stare as much either.

I am very impressed with these trekking poles....:)they DO bear a substantial amount of weight. The Leki ones have an option to palm the handle with a rounded head on the grips! This does wonders for me, since my hands are so bad. You can use the finger grips too. They functioned just about as well as crutches. They are not very tall, and I initially had them at the 120cm mark :confused: but ended up moving them down to 105cm mark:Doh: They are not meant to be tall....they function exactly like a cane or low crutches. ( I did a good deal of comparison shopping on the net, and these were the best value, and the lowest price on this model, the Leki Diva with the spring loaded tip. One place offered free shipping and had the lowest price, $104). Careful if you get these....search the net for price. Also, these have a twist type feature for lengthening and shortening....it works fast and does hold, but, for serious weight bearing, this could give way. It didn't for me and I felt very secure.)

I suppose tomorrow my shoulders, biceps and fore arms will be sore....but, it helped my feet a lot! I got a good doggie walk in!

I highly recommend these for any one who has really sore feet, foot placement issues but still wants to walk on paths.:Grin-Nod:

Now, I am sitting here, eating my warm fresh rhubarb sauce over vanilla ice cream:icecream:.... and fresh asparagus:Starvin:....while my feet throb! AT least my tibias are not aching.

Simple pleasures:) Baby steps.:)

My freezer is already loaded with home grown goodies! I will run out of room. Time to pull out the canner already!:) Doing this with gimpy hands is a real picnic....you should see my kitchen when I am done....what a mess! Broken stuff, slop everywhere....takes me two days to clean it up! Ah, but it is worth it! mmm, mmm

My baby chicks have learned to fly out of their box! THIS is not a good development! Also, hubby is allergic to feathers, just found THAT out.....oh my.:eek:
