Fahr's Disease
Hello Everyone,
I am looking for some answers for a friend. Her husband has been dx'd with Fahr's Disease. Does anyone know anything about it or know anyone who specializes in it. Thanks, hopeful |

Fahrs
no, I don't have hypothroidyism.

All I know is that it involves calcification of the basal ganglia in the crania. It can involve dementia, seizures, movement disorders, etc. That's about all I know about it. From what I understand it CAN be hereditary.
I also got this from PubMed. I hope this helps. God bless. Hugs, Lee |
Fahr's disease
My son has it, too. He is enrolled in a study in the Rare and Undiagnosed Diseases program at NIH, and they're looking for more participants, so anyone with Fahr's should really contact them to benefit all of us. I also found a lot of information at the website of the National Organization for Rare Diseases -- look under "Familial Idiopathic Basal Ganglia Calcification."

Fahr's Disease
I also have Fahr's. I'm 33 and have been experiencing symptoms for about 3 years. (Slight tremors in the hands, muscle stiffness, difficulty walking, twitches, involuntary curling of the toes, depression, some very minor short-term memory loss, dizziness, and feelings of numbness in the head)
So far it is progressing relatively slow. I was wondering how long before I start experiencing seizures and/or dementia, or does it vary from person to person? |
