Help finding a Dr.

Hi,
My name is Carrie and I am a new member who does not have a clue about what I am doing. My goal here was to chat with people in my area to help me find a Dr that can take care of all my needs. I live in Roseville Mi. now but moved here from Las Vegas. In Vegas I had one Dr that took care of all my needs unless she thought I needed more help. She gave me all my scripts for insulin, blood pressure, and all my pain meds I need to live as I have a very painful illness. If anyone knows how I can go about this please let me know. You can email me @ ** . Right now I have to go to 5 Drs and I think that is just crazy and I can not afford it. I do have medicare and BC/BS. If you can help me out please let me know I would appreciate it so much.
Thank You for the Help, Carrie **

Hi Carrie,
What is your illness?
Maybe we can direct you to the best forum for it.
Most of our forums have useful sticky threads at the top of them and they usually contain special & saved information regarding that condition.

Carrie:

Before anyone can give you any information at all, WE NEED TO KNOW YOUR DIAGNOSIS.

So come here again, and post and one of us will direct you to the proper forum, and others will try and help you with whatever you need.

hi carrie and welcome to NT,

i just moved to another state and have to start again with finding all new docs.
i doubt you'll find only 1 dr to meet all your needs. start with finding a good internist to coordinate your care and give you referrals.

i needed a pain dr too and of late they're all really careful about prescribing narcotics. so, it may take a few visits for you both to feel confident with each other. i found my dr by calling a local rehabilitation hospital and asking who they would recommend for pain mgment. then my pcp wrote me a referral letter.

getting letters from your previous md's summarizing your care would be helpful to take to anyone new. it's more credible that way.

the previous advice is good. knowing your dx would help us help you.

Carrie? Get more basic....

I don't know what your issues are, but? I would contact all my prior docs, and ASK for reccomendations! The 'ol boy/girl network goes far and wide these days?
Then check out your local area magazines? We've one here which does a 'Top Docs' every other year in which docs are asked to suggest WHO THEY'd want to treat them or a family member.
Next? Go to US NEWS AND WORLD REPORT and check out their TOP HOSPITALS annual review... if a hospital near you is on the list? IF it's on the list that could be a good thing? This site will give you links to the hospital web sites [in blue-just like here we refer things?] and click to your heart's content.
Think you've found a doc or two or three? Click and web-up THEIR NAMES! See what they do, how they advertise themselves and also WHAT PAPERs they mite have contributed to...they mite just be in areas of YOUR issues? If not, the whole paper, [tho written by a committee?] can give you a hint as to how that one doc thinks, at least in a group.
Then lastly? Do the consumer checklist things. People mostly COMPLAIN on these sites? But you mite get a handle on how THEY approached the doc and how the doc reacted? Not at all reliable tho...not at all.
Those are the starters, and it takes WORK to find a doc you can TALK to? But, first I'd ask my old docs...I have had to see new docs for new problems lately? And my trusted old docs have given me a good bunch of references! Word of mouth and GOOD word too? Is worth far more than outsite stuffs!
I hope this helps you find your way....'s - j
