How Acupuncture works: Hope for us! RIBOSE

http://psychcentral.com/news/2010/06...ved/14234.html

I am off to look around for the rest of the week for adenosine boosting supplements! ;)

More on adenosine:

This is a medical site listing medical uses:

http://www.webmd.com/vitamins-supple...OSINE&source=3

Adenosine is used by the mitochondria during energy production. So it stands to reason, supporting the mitochondria, may improve pain levels too.

The supplement itself, appears iffy taken orally. I am still looking around about it.

This is what adenosine is:

Notice the ribose presence? Athletes typically use ribose (a sugar) for increasing energy.

And notice magnesium is crucial to proper functioning of ATP also.

Glad your looking into this....I saw the article yesterday and did a brief check but couldn't lock into anything I could act on so I put it on the back burner. I remember, way back, reading about ribose for energy and seriously considered it for John when his fatigue was really bad. Life Extension had a lot of info on it. It's something you have to take all the time to reap the benefit from it but maybe it has more, far reaching benefits.

Thanks...
Marlene

I am still looking at papers on ribose... I was concerned about blood sugar and A1C effects.

So this article seems promising:

http://www.ispub.com/ostia/index.php...n1/dribose.xml

I've decided to try it, at the modest dose first, and will be ordering it from iherb today. About $25 for 8 oz of powder.

I would love to get some of my stamina back and sore muscles some relief!

I'll bump up this thread with results! ;)

Wasn't there a supplement in the 90's called Enada? It was some adensoine tri or di phosphate?? If I am correct.....just can't remember anymore. It was recommended for Fibro and CFS. It was expensive if I remember correctly.

Careful on dosing too late. D-Ribose will keep you up late. Kinda like ALCAR x 6. The best thing I found was Magnesium Oil for sore muscles. I use it daily along with CoQ10.

I have been using Magnesium Oil for the last year with some definite releif. I also have what's called a Fir Infrared Sauna and whenever I get unbearably sore. I jump in there.

Yes, I tried that too. It made shot anxiety thru the roof. It's called CO-E1 or ENADA. They still have a website. The best mito boosters I have taken and been able to tolerate are Ubiquinol(CoQ10)and Magnesium. Magnesium stimulates Adenosine I beleive.

Here is an independent monograph and the potential of NADH:

Given many years have passed, we don't hear much about it.

Sometimes the Parkinson's forum discusses this supplement:
http://neurotalk.psychcentral.com/sh...highlight=NADH

I'll report back on the usefulness of the ribose. I am intrigued about its effects on limiting lactate (which can build up in muscles).

I cannot use a sauna, or any heat source because of my MP...it activates that nerve and is a devil to put back to sleep!

It appears that the price has come down a bit, over time. It is not as expensive as some other things out there! (like my chiro inositol) or SAMe.

update on ribose:

Well, it has been 3 days on this, and I thought I'd come on with my impressions so far:

1) I don't see any new energy yet at 5 gms in the morning.

2) It is sedating me somewhat, and I seem more tired than usual.
(this is unexpected)

3) it does cause some nausea when I first take it. I mix it into
Crystal light. It is not unpleasant in any way taste-wise, and is similar in that way to inositol powder.

4) I am sleeping much much better. I don't understand this effect either.

5) it is reducing my appetite and food does not seem attractive very much at all. If this continues, I might be losing substantial weight. (that would be a plus!)

It is VERY hygroscopic...meaning it turns to liquid when exposed to air. The little powder residue left on the scoop which I left out because the handle is so long, turned to a clear syrup. So storage of it is important. ( I had to carefully clean that up before using again).
I am thinking of putting the jar in a plastic ziploc too.

Too soon to tell if it is working on pain at all, or stamina, tho.

Have you ever tried actual accupuncture? I have not but had a phone consult. From what the lady described for the reasons it helped pain is because it helps with your sleep, stomach and eating, anxiety etc which in turn those things help with your pain. Not sure if that is accurate or what. I never had it due to how sensitive I am to even touch so can't give feedback on it from personal experience.
