Please help

Hello to everyone.

I am zakria and have been suffering from left side facial and tongue pain after my 1st molar extraction nearly three months ago.
My pain gradually gets worse as the day progresses, I hope someone can help me find why I have this chronic pain. Molar Abcess would not clear with antibiotics (3courses) Extraction was very traumatic, took some time, had 6 injections of aneasthetic. 3 stitches, the wound is healing o.k.

The following happened in order (in brief):

1st week
get nasty salty foul taste in mouth, intermittant during day, have bad breath too.
swelling in cheek, jaw and sinus area.
intermitted electric shocks at the extracted tooth site, pain travels toward ear
upper maxillary teeth all aching with pain
sinus area painfull to touch
left side of face sensitive to touch/pain

week9
tongue feels swollen on left side, pain at the edge
tongue starts to swell all over, get pulling sensation back into throat, pain in back of tongue.
involuntary twitching in hands/arms infrequent during day and night

week11
involuntary biting of swollen tongue
tongue feels "full" heavy.

week12
feel that talking is affected, cannot utter words fluently,

what is going on, please someone shed some light i'm i a dark place.

thankyou.

Hi Zakria.
I am glad you found your way here.
You say the wound is healing o.k.
did you take any antibiotics? The start of it sounds like an infection of some type. have you seen any doctors or the dentist since this started??
I dont recognize the symptoms you mention .. twitching in arms hands....usually it is the face as far as T.N.
I am not a doc or a pro but I think it is more on the dental end or an infection ..maybe the saliva gland is clogged . twitching.. did you have neck injury when they were getting tooth out? pinch a nerve??
I see you posted this in the dental forum also good job I bet you will have some better answers and be in the right direction soon.
keep us posted and let us know how things are. and if you are in a dark place we are here , your not alone. if your in bad bad pain go to emergency room.

Hi BMW,

thankyou.

i am not too concerned about twitching, that may be just stress/anxiety.

involuntary tongue biting, painful tongue, slurred speach are the latest symptoms as of last week or so.

The pain is facial ache, tongue burn, and pulling, my left side cheek, lip, jaw are sensitive to touch and painful.

The tooth did not have infection but i did feel that the stitches were very tight, almost if the skin was overstretched.

i have had three different dentist look at my condition. Two of them dont have a clue, one suggested a neurological condition due to trauma. I have also seen a maxillofacial surgeon at the hospital a CT scan was done yesterday, I am due back in two weeks to discuss results.

Two weeks seems like a year right now.

well I do know from other that have said thier t.n started after dental work and too it is not that uncommon for one to have the T.N nerve damaged in some way by an infection like a sinus infection ..or abscessed tooth. the infection travels to that nerve.
IMHO I would skip seeing any more dentists and oral pros and fight to get referred to a neuro Doc. a.s.a.p. they will be able to help you more then anyone in finding out if this is nerve damage and if it is some type of Neuralgia thats taken your face mouth and you hostage.
I wonder if cold or hot compress may help you a teeny tiny bit easy the pain?
no one that you have seen has given you anything for the swollen tongue and your mouth issues??
I hate to hear how much pain your dealing with. :(
if it gets to bad the Hosp should be able to try a nerve block to help you get some relief.
Your not alone even tho your suffering by yourself ... we are here and know ..we know:hug: and care. keep posting okay... we will help you figure this out.

Try an ice brick or the flexible packs on the affected side. Also, you might want to rinse with a good flouride mouthwash, preferably one without alcohol, in the interim. Has anyone put you on long term antibiotics? I'm not a medical person. I just have too much experience with tooth issues and this condition. BMW is right, you're not alone here. Take care

Hi EE

Do you have the same condition?

I bite my tongue without any control, this is very very distressing. my tongue burns with pain constantly.

How do you deal with this?

What meds are you taking

Regards

Hi Zakria, I have bilateral TN and I was undiagnosed for a long time. I've had numerous tooth issues which I believe were the result of TN and I lost a lot of teeth due to ongoing pain after root canals. My tongue is not a problem and I'm not sure what condition you have been diagnosed with. I am on a combination of meds for my condition but I can't tolerate a lot of the usual meds used for nerve pain. I hope you find some answers and try some meds to see what works for you. Take care

Hi Zakria

You've really been on my heart! I saw your post in the dental forum as well.
Have you had an X-ray?
This sounds very serious! I hope you have a doctor who is on top of this!
Please have your doctor dig deeper if you aren't getting answers from him!!

nevermind! :) I see you DID get a catscan and are awaiting results!
Thank God !! I know this must seem like a long wait, but I was SO VERY relieved to see that they did a CT!!

Truly Caring
Rae
