update- home from hospital

Ok so ended up being admitted to hospital after memorial day. 4 days of medrol IV's with the mestinon.
My sugar didnt get too bad considering I am type 2 but I did have to take insulin.
When I went in to hospital, I could barely walk with walker, breathing was very labored, swallowing was bad and hands were not working well .
After the 4 days I was walking, slowly, on my own (not even a cane). Hands are ok and breathing much better. I also was taught a way to swallow that gets the most out of my throat muscles so Im not coughing and clearing my throat as much. So, Im glad I went in.
Now that Im home, Im on 16 days of prednisone with the mestinon....then just mestinon.
The hope of my neuro, who by the way, likes to try the least dangerous things first and move on as needed, is that this will work for at least 6-12 mos before having to do it again.
If not, then he said we will do IVIG and the cancer drugs because he doesnt want me on long term steroids and Im glad for that.
So far so good. Legs still are not working well enough to walk any distance. But well enough to get around house from room to room. As for getting out, im looking in to a scooter if insurance will pay for it.
Im glad I have a neuro that takes the more conservative approach. Mestinon got me through pretty well for 20 yrs so I cant complain too much about having to move on to other treatments now.

Draggin, I'm sorry you had to be in the hospital and that your MG went south again. I hope you will take it very easy. I'm sure you know that it takes a longer time to recover from a crisis or exacerbation than it does just a trip to run errands. I'm glad you have a good neuro taking care of you. Hang in there.

Annie
