Well, here I am again...just curious, as I know there are many of us out here, who have been down this road, unfortunately. I'm going for my first 6 month check-up, cerebral angiogram, in 2 weeks...I'm slightly worried. My aneursym was very large, 15 by 15, it was unruptured and coiled. What should I expect?
I'm scared to have it done, scared not to, ugh!! I've been through so much already, I'm afraid if I don't go, and there's something still wrong, and if I do go and there's something wrong...ugh, again!! Feeling anxious...any help out here would be much appreciated...love you all...Laurie

Such a large aneurysm why was it coiled instead of being clipped? Did the location made it unsuitable for open surgery or do you have other health problems? Craniotomy is a much more invasive surgery but it is also, in most cases, a much more certain fix that does not require regular follow-ups.

There are problems with coils, it sometimes needs to be repeated, and the coils sometimes migrate. It is more likely though that the angiogram will show that you are just fine and the lesion has clotted.

Notice you are from Saint Louis. I'm not too far away on the other side of the river. Did you have your coiling performed at Barnes by chance?

I had 2 craniotomies, not coilings, but have had several angiograms. If you are having them at Barnes, which is where I had mine,I slept through the procedure every time. They were able to use some kind of patch afterward and I didn't have to lay still for as long. I made the mistake of trying to go to work the day after I had one of them. I should have stayed home and rested, because I was miserable and in quite a bit of pain from standing by the end of the day. The worst thing was the stress of waiting to get the test done. Rose

The reason for coiling instead of clipping was the location, supposedly unsuitable and more risks involved if they had gone with clipping. My cerebral angiogram has been rescheduled for the 28th of this month, so praying everything is good...I'm ready to be done with all of this for sure!! Rose, my angiogram will be done at St Clair hospital, it's been rescheduled for the 28th of this month, hopefully, everything will be good, and I hope that I, too, will sleep through it. Ugh, the stress of waiting is the worst, your right.
Do they give you something for anxiety while this is being done? I hope. Thanks for your reply, I love reading them, just knowing I'm not alone in this helps sooo much!!!

My coiling was done at St Clair Hospital in Fenton, it's a new hospital, and state of the art, I might say. My Neurosurgeon and the staff there were wonderful, really wonderful. I'll be going in on the 28th of this month for my cerebral angiogram, which was rescheduled, hoping everything looks good.

I know how you feel...my first follow-up MRI/MRA following my bypass and coiling in late Aprl and early May, respectively, is 7/26, and I am very nervous! You are in my thoughts, but I am sure that everything will be fine! Please let me know how you are!
