WiFi for travel without aircard options?

I do some travel and use wirelss HSI at home/work. I do not want to sign up for an aircard account just for the once a month or so travel. I heard there are options for wifi type of thing I can use at hotels, etc that is a prepaid (sort of like tracphone?) device.

Can anyone guide me on what my best option(s) is? Much thanks!

Many hotel/motels have free wifi included for guests, and some have a small daily charge for use.

If you are going to a larger city or populated areas the coffee shops/cafes usually have wifi some free and some a sign up & small fee.

I would do search for wifi hot spots in the areas you will be traveling to and see what comes up , also check the various hotel/motels that you might be staying at.

Thanks, that is what I do now. What I am really looking for is a form of aircard thingy that I can use in those hotels that charge me a fortune. SOrt of like a card that that allows me so many mbs of net service for a flat fee. I heard it exists but nobody seems to know who offers.

Verizon Wireless has prepaid aircards so you just put in airtime when you're going to use it.

You get a lot more data with a monthly account though so look into both options.

If you have a cell phone with them, many of them allow you to add tethering through your phone so you can connect to the rev A 3G network through your phone and just add the tethering feature when you're going to travel.

Visit www.verizonwireless.com for more details specific to your area.

:Dunno::Hum:Duh!!

Great- and it is with my cell company! I'll have to pop in as soon as I get back from my trip (today-Fri).

I must be an idiot, I never even did the obvious thing "Jane, why don't you just go to the verizon store and ask them..."

Before I worked there I never would have thought of it as an option, so go easy on yourself, lol.

I am cheap *ahem* I mean Frugal, and search for the free. I have an IPOD touch, and it uses WiFi as well as my laptop. Most hotels offer FREE wifi. Starbucks, Borders, and many other book stores offer FREE wireless. Many repair shops that fix your car (dealerships included) offer FREE wifi for the waiting customers. When I travel I find its rare to be sitting without some sort of access that is free. Many truck stops now include Free WiFi as well as many reststops with food services.

I hear verizon has great coverage, and its rare that you find yourself without a signal, even in the middle of the woods in a campground. ATT offers nice products, but doesnt cover as much ground as Verizon. Sprint also is spotty in coverage, and while offers good prices, its not worth it if you cant get a signal. Tmobile is the bottom of the ladder. They offer amazing prices, but again, what good is a good price if you cant use the product?

I hope you have fun in your travels.

And I reiterate (in case I forgot to mention before.... ), Verizon has the BEST network hands down, and you get what you pay for. They are slightly more expensive but it works almost everywhere. Why pay for an inferior network? You might pay a few bucks less per month for substandard service but it isn't worth if you're constantly frustrated over lack of service or coverage.

I've been in the wireless industry for over a decade and I know what I'm talking about, lol. :o

Verizon Wi-Fi Questions

First of all Hidey HOOOOO!!!! I am new to NeuroTalk as of this morning.

I was doing an internet search on Wi-Fi, and it brought me here...
I am almost finished with training for Medical Transcription, and my oldest son just graduated from High School. My husband and I have always wanted to travel with our RV after the kids go on to College. I am really needing to find a truly easy to use and reliable High Speed Wireless Internet option. Yes cost is a factor in my choices and I do not know all the places we will go to.
Another thing to mention is that as a transcriptionist I would be getting audio files then send the finished reports to the hospitals or companies that I contract with.

Can you help me to learn what I truly need, and how to go about getting it?

I have chosen Med. Transcription as a vocation now, because I was diagnosed with MS May 18, 1996 (after my youngest daughter was born). I have a college degree in Business, and I have not used it, but decided to become a daycare provider approximately 20 years ago. I am now unable to fully perform what is required for the daycare, and since I love typing, I thought this the best choice. Now, I was told by the college, that it is a career that I can do from anywhere in the country as long as I have internet access.

Soooo what do you think?

Thanks in Advance!

Welcome stamp2grin! :)

If you're in Illinois and can come into a Verizon retail store, send me a PM and I'll direct you to one near you. Or, go to http://www.verizonwireless.com/b2c/m...s+and+netbooks

and look at air cards such as the MiFi wireless air card from Verizon Wireless. It's awesome and you can get 5 gigabytes of data each month for $59.99 on the best and largest 3G network in the US. You can also use WIFI when that's available if you don't need the Verizon service for whatever reason.

Here's a list of contact numbers for them, but I would call the sales number highlighted below for more information. :) They have the best customer service and they'll be glad to help you out.
