back pay and taxes..

my advice to new people is if your are approved for SSDI , before you get your back pay ask if they will with hold taxes :) before they send it to you :)when you apply becuase sometimes the money just shows up in your acount before youeven get a letter

Yeesh! I made a big mistake...we do have to pay taxes! (friend said we don't)

Yes it is taxable income. Just like having a job.

This isn't true. If LTD/SSDI is your only income-then its non-taxable. Only becomes taxable if you have other income(25,000 if single,32,000 if married). Mine is tax free.

It is very true , for us my husband still works and he makes over 32000, a year and my ssdi is 85 per cent taxable, the back pay and the monthly income. :) for those of you who make less then that and are married you are safe , also the state of Miichigan does not tax any of it :) only Fed
