lamictal fatigue

My son is 8 years old and has been taking lamictal for 3 days. He complained of being really tired yesterday and fell asleep around 2:30 in the afternoon and slept for 15 hours straight. He woke up fine this morning. I am concerned about him taking this drug and not sure if the risks outweigh the rewards... Does anyone have an idea about how long this fatigue will last or how beneficial this drug is for a child with bipolar disorder?

Hi,
Mostly likely these side effects are short term.
He won't feel the benefit from the drug until weeks and months -- as the psychiatrist titrates up the dose.

Be on the look out for rashes. Any rash should be reported to the pdoc.

Also keep a log of other side effects. Such as him getting suddenly tired and needing to sleep for hours. Especially if this is new.

I would say that it might be the amount of the drug that he was started on at the time. Also watch how they have him go up on this drug.

I don't know for sure how it works for bi-polar. But my son has taken
it for seizures for over 8 years now.

Opps, He was taken off the lamictal about one year ago. And put
on dilantin. The reason was because it took a very high dosage
to even get him therapeutic.
