Worse after minor surgery

Hi Everyone,

My husband had minor surgery this week (unrelated to MG). He came home feeling pretty good but less than 24 hrs later was at the weakest I have seen him in a long time. He was on Darvocet for pain once we got home and I can't find anywhere that it is contraindicated. He also had Demerol after surgery & I know that is on the list but didn't have an problem until we got home. He is doing better now (no more Darvocet) but I wondered if anyone else has had an experience like this? Personally, I think the Wii he got for Father's Day & was allowed to open early is the best medicine he's had in a long time. ;)

Thank you - Alison

Alison, it might be the meds that are causing the weakness, BUT, I think that the surgery itself that is far more likely the REASON for his problems. Surgery is interpreted by the body as an "assault" -- and causes an increase of antibodies -- and antibodies cause an increase in MG symptoms........it takes a little while for the antibodies to "ramp up" -- 24 to 48 hours sounds about right.

So sorry that your hubby has to endure this -- but, so NICE that he has a GREAT gift to play with!!!

Thanks Jana! That's what we were thinking too but I wanted to see if anyone had experienced similar issues. I'm glad he's feeling better & out of bed, but I may have to ground him and our daughter from the Wii! We are a VERY competitive family and there could be bloodshed!!
