Voice and swallowing problems
 

I was hit in an accident, Nov. 19, 2009 and have not been able to talk right since. I am hoarse, difficult swallowing, mouth and tongue don't work correctly, choking and trouble breathing. Had vocal cord spasms but they have gotten better. I can not speak very loud and pronouncing words is sometimes difficult. Stress makes it worse. I am seeing a neurologist, ent, chiropractor and a Sacral cranial therapist. When the last two work on me I get better briefly. I drool a lot. I am getting more afraid. gosh cricket, i'm sorry to hear about all this affecting you.
would a 2nd opinion neuro help?

i also know that there's such a thing as a swallowing study and a swallowing evaluation. i had that once and the therapist was able to give me some suggestions to help with my swallowing.

don't give up. you just have to find the right person to help you.

Hi Nurse Nancy, Thanks for reading, I have had all the swallowing test and had speech therapy also. I failed speech but could form words if I am not tired.:o

Help on voice or swallowing problems
 

Hi Everyone I am Cricketjbs. I noticed people are looking at my posting but are not commenting. Has anyone been diagnosed with either of these symptoms. Has any one got better after a while. I can be patient but I need to keep hoping. If it is Parkinson can my voice and swallowing be helped or improved by medicine. If it is some other neurological disease or even ALS can it be improved. Has anyone suffered like this and gotten better? How do you deal with other's who grow impatient with you and do not understand what you are trying to communicate? I am trying not to get down or frustrated because that makes me worse!!!!:rolleyes:

does your chiro do upper cervical adjusting? the c1/c2?

I'm another new member and am sorry you and I have to be here but it does look like a great place to come for information and comfort to me.

I just wanted to say that I think your situation must be from the accident and nothing else, so don't worry about those other conditions. I hope you can find more help for yourself.

Swallowing Problems
 

I assume you have seen an ears, nose and throat specialist and have gotten scoped by one of those specialists and possibly an endoscopy from a GI if that was negative. Is it possible you have a bone spur on a vertebra, I have been told that can cause swallowing problems.

I have esonphilic esophagitis which causes swallowing problems, it was diagnosed by pathologist after an endoscopy and biopsies. It is supposedly caused by food allergies.
