Effective repellent???
 

Is there a non-toxic, but effective repellent to keep the neighbor's dogs off our lawn? Discussing, fencing, warning, etc. are not options. Long story.

I've seen stuff advertised that you can sprinkle on your property. Is it hocus pocus, or does it work? I know we'd have to re-apply after rain, but at LEAST it might discourage them until they formed new habits. Grrrrrrrrr.

I have one good thing? But it requires caution!

IT IS foul smelling stuff! I'd gotten it ground for indian cooking kept in a tightly sealed jar, double bagged [it's that bad]. I never used it for that, but we'd had dog problems in our yard so I tried it on 'their spots' after cleaning them up. One whiff and never got a dog there again! You mite have to do another 'dusting' after a good rainfall, but as I said? One whiff and they're gone! Believe me, IF you get it locally or on line? Be sure to quadruple seal it and maybe more! Another option is an electronic motion sensor. I walk my dog around the neighborhood, and she never wanted to go down one specific street. I talked to my husband about it and discovered one of the homes has a motion sensor that emits a high piercing sound in the range of a dog's hearing. It bothers the dog enough to want to get away from the yard it is coming from. I never could hear it, but my husband could and my dog sure did!

I don't know the name of this item, but I've seen it online at stores specializing in dog supplies. It was with electronic barking sensors...which emit the bothersome sound in response to barking.

Try sprinkling black pepper liberally around the edge of your yard. It will make the dogs sneeze and keep them away. Don't laugh. We sprinkle it around our garbage cans and never get racoons or dogs. It works, is not toxic and inexpensive.

These are all good ideas. I saw a solar animal repeller advertised on TV and was ready to sneer at it, when I saw that it was put out by Bell & Howell. I might check into it. Thirty bucks.

I like the pepper idea. I hesitate to use ammonia or the stuff you buy and sprinkle...if one of the dogs ever got sick, my neighbor would ALWAYS think I poisoned her dog, and so would I, no doubt.

The ScareCrow is a device you hook up to your hose and it operates by motion sensor. It is basically a sprayer that covers and arc of your yard operated by the motion sensor, and is used to scare away everything from cats and raccoons to dogs and deer.
