Fibriomyalgia & myoclonus

Does anyone have FM with the complication of Myoclonus?

I have this combination and it is absolute agony and I can't find anything to get rid of the pain for longer than a couple of hours. Last night I didn't get to bed until 4am and was up at 8am with only 2 hours sleep.

This attack is including my whole left side, (have a forzen left shoulder too), left jaw, teeth and gums with myoclonic spasms all over the body neck head arms wrists fingers & feet and it seems the more I try to control my hands and fingers the worse the spasms become; takes me ages to type something like this out because every third or fourth letter I have a spasm,

Have you seen a neurologist, because the spasms don't sound like FM, rather neuro stuff? I have restless leg syndrome (RLS) AND FM, and I take Mirapex for RLS. Maybe you could ask your doctor if Mirapex would help your myoclonus. I have mild myoclonus in right foot and leg in adddition to RLS which is different, but both are neuro conditions. Good luck, zeta

Hi,

I'm new to the site but I read your post and was surprised to see that someone else had the same problem as me. Did you ever get any answers from a good dr regarding the spasms? I have an appointment with my neurologist coming up but I'm frustrated as all get out because I've had these spasms for several years now and was just diagnosed with fibro last year and it seems like none of my medications continue to work. I take them for several weeks and then they stop working. The spasms have done nothing but gotten worse over the past several years. Unfortunately most of the doctors I go to seem to think it's all in my head and i'm over it. Any advice would be welcome as I am at the end of my rope over all the medical issues.

Hello and Welcome!

Hello FrustratedTN and WELCOME to NeuroTalk!

I just wanted to pass on to you that you may not get an answer from the original poster's as this thread is over a year old and many have not posted since this thread.

Hopefully someone will come along and be able to help you.
:)

I have a son with epilepsy. The name of this thread caught my attention.

Myoclonus, is a form of seizures. But its not recognized as much with
the use of medications.

But the thing is that with fibro,

There is one drug that is a epilepsy medication also. And I can't remember
of the top of my head but I believe the top used drug is also.

They are Neurotin (Gabapentin) or Lyrica, sorry I don't know the generic.

I had seizures as a child. And there was a chance a few years ago, I was
having some again. My doctor chose to try Gabapentin, and it is working
very well for my fibro as long as I'm on the right dosage.

It also helps with the issues I had that could have been seizures. I am
not telling you to go on either drug, I'm just giving you the information
on which drugs could possibly help.

The other thing is it sounds like a good muscle relaxer medication might
help you. See if they will prescribe this, If not the neurologist.

Next you look for a Pain management doctor. This is who is best in
my opinion for fibromyalgia. Some use a Ruemotologist, but I find
the Pain Management Doctor great.
