There will be some very distinguished world renowned speakers who are pioneers and leaders in the field of Celiac Disease. Included in this group are:

Dr. Peter Green, Director of the Celiac Disease Center at Columbia University, is one of the few recognized specialists on Celiac Disease in the United States. He is a Professor of Clinical Medicine at the College of Physicians and Surgeons, Columbia University and Attending Physician at the New York-Presbyterian Hospital. Under the guidance of Dr. Green, The Celiac Disease Center at Columbia University is the only center in the United States that provides comprehensive medical care, including nutrition, for adult and pediatric patients with celiac disease. ALL of the Center’s research is into celiac disease—clinical epidemiology, and mechanisms of celiac disease and patient and physician education. The Center is diagnosing and treating more than 2000 patients annually from around the world.

Dr. Stefano Guandalini, Professor of Pediatrics Section Chief, Pediatric Gastroenterology, Hepatology, and Nutrition Director, University of Chicago Celiac Disease Program, is an internationally recognized expert on celiac disease. He is also known for his expertise in the research and treatment of other diarrheal diseases in children.

Dr. Thomas Brannagan is a member of the American Academy of Neurology, as well as the American Association of Electrodiagnostic Medicine. Dr. Brannagan's major interest is in the treatment of immune-mediated neuropathies.

Dr. Janet Choi is an Assistant Professor in the Obstetrics and Gynecology department at Columbia University. She is currently involved in clinical research assessing the frequency of latent celiac disease in the female infertility population.

Dr. Ted Malahias is a forerunner in detecting celiac disease through dentistry. Working with Dr. Peter Green, he conducted a research study to determine the dental enamel defects in persons with CD. He initiated an intensive screening to confirm his findings.

Steve Plogsted, PharmD, BCNSP, is a clinical pharmacy specialist at Children's Hospital in Columbus, Ohio, who has become an expert on how medications interrelate with celiac disease issues. He is co-author of the book "A Guide to Living with Gluten Intolerance".

Trisha Lyons, RD, LD, is a dietitian at MetroHealth Medical Center in Cleveland. Since being diagnosed with celiac disease, Trisha has been actively involved with the Northeast Ohio Celiac Disease Support Group, has raised money for CD research, has studied the disease extensively, and frequently educates patients and medical professional on celiac disease and the gluten-free diet.

Vanessa Maltin, celiac and author of "Beyond Rice Cakes: A Young Person's Guide to Cooking, Eating & LIving Gluten-Free", is the director of outreach and programming for the National Foundation for Celiac Awareness (NFCA).

Denise Ramey, RN, has been very active in the celiac community. She is Chairperson for the Canton/Alliance Chapter of the CSA (Celiac Sprue Association) and has been very active in organizing yearly Celiac Walks to raise money for celiac research.

Connie Sarros is the author of four gluten-free cookbooks and the DVD "All You Wanted To Know About Gluten-free Cooking". She has written the "Newly Diagnosed Survival Kit" and creates customized weekly menus for those on a gluten-free diet who have additional dietary restrictions. Connie has been a speaker at support groups throughout the country and many National Celiac Conventions.

Julie Thomas is a currently pursuing and MD at the University Of Cincinnati College Of Medicine. She was diagnosed with celiac disease during her sophomore year at Ohio State University. Despite living in a dorm, then in an apartment with three roommates, she was able to adapt to a gluten-free lifestyle. She will be speaking to the teens.
