Happy 4th of July!

OK, so I admit, I missed the solstice....however, I won't miss the 4th. Happy FORT of JUUULY. Bang! Boom!

Awww, my poor labrador is wrapped around the toilet in the lowest level of the house again! In his mind, this is a thunder storm. And we have fireworks going on all 3 days in surrounding towns. I don't even need to leave home to see fireworks every night in each direction.

But, I am going in to town to get chewed up by the state bird (Mosquito) to watch the show with friends and family! Boooooom! Baaaang!

Mere 07-04-2010 10:35 AM

Sounds fun! Poor doggy; My cats get very paranoid as well. Your state bird is the mosquito? Ours is the redneck - just kidding. Do your hens get nervous? My sister used to raise turkeys and they would flip out quite frequently.

We are going to rotisserie a chicken on the grill and set off our own show in our cul-de-sac. Just the two of us today... We used to go into DC to see the activities when we were in walking distance of the Metro (our first house). So many people... It's crazy. We also used to live near Rock Creek Parkway and the Wash. D.C. Zoo - one of the highest spots in D.C. The house we lived in was old and huge so we would party on the roof (the flat part) and watch the fireworks from there. It was awesome. Although, I remember feeling so scared that someone may have too much to drink and fall off the roof! Oh well, those were the fun days!

Yes, happy 4th to everyone!

I am happy today because~~~ no one was at the store! We sailed thru. And I found at WalMart, high quality hybrid daylilies, with short leaves and beautiful tall flowers of a deep ripe peach shade, for drum role please ~~~~ 3 dollars each! In the large size container too. I can remember when hybrid daylilies were $20 for the same size!

So I am going put these seven I snapped up in my rock garden in front, and some in back where I can see them from behind my terminal here!

This is a picture of the area from a week ago, and now I have alot white daisies than the picture shows. My new peachy daylilies will look nice in front, I think!

We will be leaving in about 2 weeks for our summer vacation (where there is no electricity). Just to let everyone know. ;)

Looks like we have rain headed our way right in time for the fireworks. I got to see quite a few last nite from home, but, it would be nice to go to the park...but, regardless, my garden needs the rain. Hard to believe just 10 days ago we were swimming in rain and we need it again already!

Your flowers look great Mrsd.

Mere, I won't tell my 'girls' that THEY are on your menu, lol. I don't know what my chickens do when it is nasty outside....it has been bad at nite and they are usually locked in their coop.

Happy 4th!!! It's hot as a firecracker here, last look was 96. I have kept the door shut in my apartment, and it's staying fairly nice down here.:D

Happy 4th, right back at ya ( a little late)

We stayed home and put lawnchairs in the driveway and watched the show from there. No mosquitoes, I think it was still too hot. Hot for mosquitoes but beautiful to me. We had a breeze blowing through so it was pretty nice. After the show, went inside and watched a little TV and then off to bed. I swear if I don't get 8 hrs of quality sleep:Zzzz: I am useless the next day!!

mrsD 07-05-2010 11:12 AM

HOT HOT it is so HOT today, I think I am going to expire!

I had to turn off our main computer (no A/C) and use this old laptop on the back porch where it is only 90!

The fireworks now 2 nites in a row are driving Oreo crazy...
She is terribly afraid!

I want some cooler weather...soon!

My son was supposed to come and visit me and bring my little granddaughter, which for me is like getting candy. They live an hour and a half drive away.

He didn't come and when I texted him why he wasn't at our house yet, he called me and said firmly, 'I was up all night, mom. I couldn't sleep when the neighbors and people all over were shooting off firecrackers! I don't have the same feelings about things going bang in the night like when I was a kid, mom'. Then it dawned on me.

So, I could not be perturbed. I didn't think that a firecracker could put my son on the floor waiting for incoming. I guess his PTSD is far worse than I imagined.

My disappointment faded and I realized how difficult every day life can be, for him and for lots of people who fought for our freedom over the decades and centuries.

I tried to make a joke and tell him he has a lot in common with my storm phobic dog, and asked him to please not curl around the toilet.....and he laughed....but, I didn't get to see my granddaughter today.:(

I put my chickens to bed, (they sleep on a foam padded roost, lucky ducks) and frankly, I am glad all the booms and bangs are done too....so is my dog. He has not been out of the bathroom all weekend, except to pee....ironic, I know.:o

Belated Happy Fourth!

Great accounts of the 4th this year and in years gone by! :D

The 4th used to be my favorite holiday! Loved it! Celebrated for consecutive days! Had often brought in fireworks to fire off of the beach! Great fun! :D

When I had started with neuro. sx., I had found the weather far too warm in lated June, early July. I was able to attend a few gathering over the years, but very few. (Cannot function in the heat and pay a huge price for heat exposure. It was horrible before I'd had A/C... just intolerable and so incredibly ill all summer. :thud:)

Was trying to keep it cool this year and just traveling from one house to another (both with A/C). We had just left our home when our vehicle was hit by another vehicle! The other driver had fled the scene! He was intercepted by the police about 5 miles away. The front of our car was not hit hard. Nobody was hurt! Thank God!:)
Yet, it had turned into quite an ordeal... in the hot sun... while the event was documented by the police, etc.

We did make it to our destination, a bit late.. yet all intact! :D
I knew I was in trouble when my neck had started locking up a few hours later. It had felt swollen from the heat exposure. I had awakened the next day, in agony... pain everywhere and muscles jumping all over! Head jerking to the right... myoclonus ....again.... head-to-toes. Uggh! Still calming things down again.

Our animals go through a lot for our 4th celebrations!
I hate to see them so upset/bothered. :(

MrsD -- Your flowers are beautiful! :D
Cyclelops-- I hope you see your grandchild soon! :winky: I am grateful for your son's service.
Mere-- Remember when? I'll bet you had some fun times! :D
kpRN-- I am with you on the sleep!
Darlindeb -- You've been staying cool? Good for you!

To Independence! :Head-Spin:

The weather has been very hot here in Annapolis. I feel like I am in Dante's Inferno, or better, the wicked witch of the West when she says "I'm melting, I'm melting". Pretty wicked weather 90's-100's plus saturation. Yikes!

Sorry about eating the chicken Cyclelops. No feathers, no head - doesn't look like chicken - but sure tastes yummy! I decided to cut it up and marinade it in an Asian/miso/honey/rice vinegar concoction. It was spectacular.

I made Ma-Po Tofu with ground pork and rice today. It is delicious. It is one of the few Asian dishes I can prepare with confidence!

Mrs.D. love your lily garden and what a great deal. I have been working on a lily/hydrangea garden on the side of my house for the past seven years or so. I buy the plants after their bloom period and usually pay better than a third of the original price. Yours garden looks so beautiful.

Kp, we did basically the same as you...
DejaVu, wow, so sorry to hear about the accident... just what you need! My husband was involved in a hit and run many years ago. He was pretty racked-up and had about one hundred, fifty stitches in his head and eyebrow, a separated shoulder and bad concussion. Fortunately, a plastic surgeon stitched him up and you can barely see the scars. Only faintly in the sunlight, and geesh, they sewed his whole eyebrow back on... He is still a stunner and very handsome :winky:.

Hope you all are well.
