Hello,
I take Quercetin and D-Mannose for the bladder and prostate, tried of taking Cipro and the sulfur antibiotics, my question after reading your article about D-Ribose is it OK to take it with the D-Mannose. Thanks

From what I gather looking this up, is that mannose is not appreciably metabolized in humans. It is excreted whole via the urinary tract and helps prevent bacteria from lingering around there.

So I don't see why d-ribose should be a problem.
I guess you have been reading my thread?

Start low, because it really puts you to sleep ...I think this is the first effect, until the other systems start absorbing it for metabolism. So start at 2.5 grams, a 1/2 scoop, after food, preferably in the evening. I was napping alot when I tried it in the earlier part of the day! :thud:

Other than sleepiness and some nausea on an empty stomach, it seems to be easy to tolerate for me.

It is giving me much more stamina. I'll try to increase on vacation, a little to see if I am ready for that. I did 7.5 gm for 3 days, and didn't like it...perhaps splitting the dose is better.

Right now I mix it in water at night...it is mildly sweet with a smokey aftertaste. More water, is better to avoid the nausea thing. It really absorbs moisture...so I keep the canister in a ziploc after tightly reclosing it....and keep the scoop outside of it. I have one-third canister left from the orig 8oz...and it is getting slower to dissolve..because it is changing from a fine powder to a more granular form. If you don't store it well, it might spoil for you. It is really hot and humid here, and we don't have central A/C.

When I get back from summer vacation, I'll make a separate post on it. I do think for us older folks or those with insulin resistance, d-ribose is very helpful. It is not metabolized as a sugar...so don't worry about blood sugar readings.

mrsD,
Like many others I have followed your posts going back too the old BT forum and you have done more me than the doctors for the treatment of PN. Have tried all the meds and now other than the recommended supplements I only take 5mg of methadone 3 times a day for pain, it works the best and don't have to increase the dosage after two years of use, keeps the pain level in the 3 range, take flomax for the prostate( had the TURP procedure in '07) and four cystoscopies since, prostate pain is worse than PN pain(can't sit down) Enjoy your much deserved vacation, this has been a good season for the hummingbirds here in Virginia.
