Derma Rash Question

Well today I went to see the dermatoligist. I just about cancelled this appointment because when I first went to the doc with this rash I thought that he would send me to someone right away, as it was I had to wait 2 months, needless to say the rash is long gone. But was surprised today when she said that she could biopsy the site and that dermitis hepiformis (sp) would be there for up to 2 years. So I let her slice away, and man the freezing really, really hurt, and I'm not a wimp either. Anyways I have to wait 1 month for the results. I was wondering do all people with gluten sensitivity test postive for this rash? Or do only some people get the rash? I never have gotten a rash before, it just seemed that the longer I'm away from gluten the more sensitive I am to it. I had been glutened for about 3 days when this rash appeared. One thing that I found interesting is that iodine brings this rash out. What happened to me was I made this borsh, and the broth I used I bought in a can and never even looked to see if there was gluten in it, this was before I got smarter, anyways I also over salted it, and we use sea salt. It thought that the combo was the reason the rash came out. Maybe just coincidence. Maybe not? Thanks Patricia:)

If you have Dermatitis herpetiformis(DH) that is celiac disease. No, not everyone with CD get DH. Other skin problems can be associated with gluten - psoriasis, eczema, dry skin and hives. Here is an article on cutaneous manifestations of celiac disease http://www.wjgnet.com/1007-9327/12/843.asp

The Gluten File has some references to skin disease and gluten http://jccglutenfree.googlepages.com/ (I did not see the above article in TGF, but it may be there too)

I had a bumpy, non itchy rask on my back and arms. I also had strange red bumps on the soles of my feet. All of this disappeared with a GF diet.

If Iodine brings out the rash, that would make it more like DH. I have not heard how long the biopsy would be positive once the lesions heal.

Sorry the biopsy hurt. Let us know the results.
