RSD and tooth pain
 

Greetings again, all! =0) I had a filling done 1 and a half months ago, went to the endodontist who checked the tooth and said it tests normal. Also, the dentist saw nothing on the Xray, so refilled with med. packing and extra base to protect nerves. Anywho, I still can't bite on the one side and have to go back to the endodontist next week. I gave her the website for RSDHope.org and she said that she would research it. Has anyone else had this prob and/or figured out how to fix it? I have been on steroids 2X now and they don't work. Only ibuprofen helps when it starts hurting. Any suggestions? Thanks to all. God Bess, Suz =0)

I have terrible tooth pain/jaw pain which is intermittent...the tooth affected has had a root canal, no nerve there and the pain go the entire length of my lower jaw..back to front... when it is bothering me I only eat soft foods.. and due to a bad tummy, Iam not able to take pain meds...My dentist sent me back to my endodontist who performed the root canal 5 yrs. ago..only a shadow on my xray..he firmly believe it is RSD, he knows about it..and is monitoring it...it is he**. Sorry for your pain also there as it is aweful..

I am having the same type of problem with my teeth too! I've had RSD for over 5 years now and swear it (or the meds I take for it) is causing my teeth to rot out of my mouth. I just came from the dentist yesterday and it takes about two or more weeks before my mouth calms down...and this time they did not use the tools that vibrate hard. When they use that I am in severe pain for weeks. I hardly ever had cavities before RSD and in the last 3 1/2 months I've needed two crowns (two teeth cracked off), and five fillings and one of those fillings the doctor said he recommended a crown but I have no dental insurance and now owe him lots of money. I said put the filling in and we will see what happens. People don't understand not only do we have RSD but we have all the other things that go along with it! People are amazed and look at me funny when I try to explain that just for a teeth cleaning I am in pain for days. Good luck with your dental stuff. It is nice to know we are each not alone in this matter.

I really appreciate your replyiing so quickly. I go to the endodontist Tues and will talk to her. I won't have any work done unless something shows that I need it. What do you guys do to get relief from this pain? Do we go to a pain management person and get a shot in the mouth like the nerve blocks or what? I am tired of eating soft food. Ha! I had butterscotch pudding for two meals today. yesterday I had two glasses of almond milk; half choc and half vanilla. =0) Was pretty good, but sheesh! =) Anywho. Thanks again, guys. Hi, have been a RSD patient since 1988, actually before they really knew anything about it. Was caused immediately during a myleogram, with a misplaced needle, sending into shock & have had an intense, burning pain from the waist down on the left side. It took about 10 years before I began having dental problems, since it's seemed to be a constant problem. Each & every tooth that's been worked on, there's been lasting pain, other troubles, it seems to be never ending. Where I've had anesthetic injections, the pain radiates from the ear down the chin, making it difficult to shave, eat, talk, etc. I don't have the answers, normally knowing about the disorder than most doctors, although I was lucky enough to find a Pain Clinic 10 years ago, after constant fighting with different doctors, who would always say, "the pain should be gone by now" or the "nerve should've regenerated," always willing to hospitalize me for pain control, yet never willing to prescribe pain meds. With a stroke of luck, my case was turned over to my PCP, a young doctor who did his internship under the head of the Pain Clinic where I finally received help. I guess my only advice would be to make sure that your dentist knows about RSD, even bring him info of the disorder, knowing that any "dealings" with nerves can have long lasting consequences. My tooth pain was an early warning of RSD to come. I had a cracked tooth develop from a failed filling that was 20 years old. The dentist put in an inlay for $500 but didn't remove the excess on top and after a few years I developed frequent pain in my ear and jaw area. An ENT didn't see a problem after I developed my very first ear infection and sent me to the dentist who did a crown. The pain did not subside so they suggested abstraction. It didn't help so they suggested abstraction of the molar next to it. No change. then I notice that my jaw bone seemed as though it was melting and my dentist insisted I get Implants to strengthen the bone. It was excrutiating! Two very expensive implants later and my pain never went away. The Oral Surgeon diagnosed "atypical facial pain" a nerve problem and quickly wisked me out of the office with a suggestion to go to a Neurologist when the pain became unbearable. It was not long before a fourth knee surgery put my RSD into full steam and here I am now. $12000 poorer and in worlds of pain. Be careful and try to stay away from crowns, abstractions, implants if you can...Alsi alot of the RSD med dry your mouth which promotes loss of teeth. Check the side effects leaflet!!!!

I have been fighting issues with my teeth, gums, jaw, ear and neck for over a year now. I have one area (molar) that is the worst; that gives me the most trouble. All of my teeth are lose now. About every 4-6 weeks it will become infected and I will need an antibiotic to get it under control again.

About a year ago I went to the dentist and they ruled out needing a root canal, sent me to a specialist who said I have gingivitis. He wanted to surgically open my gums for deep cleaning. I was like “WHAT”, oh hell no. So now I’m not sure what to do at all. Not sure that it is good to have to take antibiotics so often. My RSD has moved all over my body.

I'm glad you brought this issue up, and hate that you are struggling with it :(
